The best resource for multiplayer games is https://areweanticheatyet.com/. Every game with nonworking anti cheat will be impossible to get working.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 points 4 hours ago

Please do. Germany needs new bases.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 points 5 hours ago

Can confirm this.

I got my Steam Deck when I caught Corona and stopped getting better. By now I can't leave my bed but with the Deck I can at least play something. Otherwise I would have gone insane by now.

I'm not sure about the details but as far as I know luks has a long internal key that is used to encrypt the whole drive. This master key is encrypted with your passphrase and that encrypted key is stored on the drive.

When you add a file as a key the master key is encrypted using the binary contents of that file and stored as well. The contents of the file are basically an additional pass phrase.

So when it tries to decrypt the drive at boot it first tries to use the key file you give it. When that fails it asks for the pass phrase.

When you made the file EncryptedSD.txt it did not contain the same binary data as the pass phrase you created. Probably due to an additional newline or two. To get around that you add the whole file as it is as a valid decryption key.

Often people might create an extra long key on an extra USB stick. Or if you want to decrypt the drive automatically with the option of setting up a pass phrase later you can initially create the volume only with a key file stored on the boot drive or so.

You have to add the file as a key file. Just adding the password to the file isn't enough.

cryptsetup luksAddKey /home/user/EncryptedSD.txt /dev/sda

Betteridge wins again.

Handhelds are a niche in PC gaming. Especially in the whole gaming market.

I only have a Deck but the touchpads are invaluable. Not only for mouse inputs but also to map multiple functions via Steam Input.

But also the gyro aiming is great for shooters. No idea if the Ally has a gyro but that has also been invaluable. Not for broad gestures but for small aiming adjustments. I forgot I used it until I turned it off.

How do such people program? Does anything they do even have any meaning to them?

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 6 points 2 days ago

Steam is great at mapping controller input to keyboard. Just add the game through Lutris to Steam. You'll have to restart Steam for that to take effect.

Maybe if you add the game's exe to Steam and run it with Proton Steam's input magic will actually make the controller work natively.

I'd like to throw Goethe's Faust into the ring. Someone being seduced by the devil while they think they're playing the devil to do good deeds is a classic trope.

Edit 2: Through all of my shenanigans I ended up on a read-only snapshot for root. The error I got just seemed similar to previous out-of-space errors. I went to a later snapshot as default and everything is working great!

My OpenSUSE Tumbleweed is wonky since I last did a dist-upgrade with about 4000 packages. Midway through it errord out with an error that indicated that the filesystem was full althou df showed plenty of free space.

BTRFS seemed to be the culprit. Removing snapshots let me continue the upgrade until it errored out again. Rinse and repeat until it was done.

Edit: My root subvolume is read only. So there must be some error in that. The other subvolumes work correctly. So I guess it isn't about free space after all.

But now the BTRFS seems to be almost full and I cannot update anymore.

I've tried a full balance but that didn't even seem to help. So I suspect that the space is caught up in snapshots, but I can't delete them.

In our eternal quest to declutter our life we found an approach that seems to work better than "does it spark joy?".

"Would I take it with me if I were to move to a 1 room apartment?"

In my quest to tame my pict-rs instance I've disabled thumbnail proxying, deleted all thumbnails and images not uploaded by me and still the files folder is several GB big. And growing.

I am the only user of my instance. But iotop shows constant disc activity for pict-rs. It's writing stuff at about 1 MB/s. The webserver logs only show my own activity and occasionally someone requesting an image. But not nearly enough to explain this constant activity.

When I'm looking at the actual files at random it seems to be mostly memes and stuff, but not what I uploaded myself.

Does anyone have an idea how I can find out what is causing all this activity?

Edit: I've opened an issue at https://git.asonix.dog/asonix/pict-rs/issues/79

I'm currently migrating pictrs' database from sled to PostgreSQL and even during that it seems to be constantly writing data to sled. Doesn't feel right to me.

it's night.
