Bret Baier’s Fox News crew was busted by Beijing’s cameras for illegal parking during Donald Trump’s state visit—and locals filmed the team blocking traffic too.

So you got in trouble for breaking the law then turned that into a statement about the bad evil surveillance state while you hold water for a party trying to erect a surveillance state in the US?

Seems stupid, but I guess that's what you get when you are primarily an "entertainment" channel.

Also hilarious that they're complaining about the jaywalking laws in China when they're only just catching up to the level of stupidity that the US has had for ages.

Like shit, American companies coined the term jaywalking ffs

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 month ago

Before cars took over our streets it was just called "walking".

[–] TransNeko@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Jaywalking is only illegal in the USA if you aren't a white man.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 14 points 1 month ago

They're upset because the "backwards commies" are better than them at a game they thought they were the champions of.

trying to erect a surveillance state in the US?

It already exists in the US. They just want to add to it.

One Fox News viewer offered a more measured perspective, "Cool, that's how parking enforcement works in NYC, DC, Chicago, LA, London, and basically every major city with cameras," adding, "You park illegally, the system catches it, you get a ticket."

The same commenter elaborated, "The only difference is the speed of the notification. Most US cities mail you the ticket a few days later. Beijing sends a text the same day. The technology is faster. The system is the same.

If "automated parking enforcement that texts you when you violate the rules" is communism, then NYC's $238 million in annual camera-issued parking tickets is the largest communist enterprise in North America."

I'm getting a kick out of this comment because I just got a ticket from NYC because their 30x20 pixel camera decided someone else's plate looked like mine. I live in a different state and haven't been to NYC since middle school. The car is completely different from mine. /rant

Fuck Fox and its viewers though.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

I one time got a ticket from one of the Carolinas. The farthest east I've ever been is Arkansas and the farthest east any of my cars have been is Utah.

[–] voidsignal@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Parking illegally is a sport in NYC

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 31 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Some schmucks will even play the game of "maybe this loser will pay my ticket."

I was legally parked with a work van and came back to a ticket on my windshield tucked under the wiper blade. I knew I was parked legally so I opened it kinda pissed off only to see the ticket was written for a red truck and I was in a white van lol what a prick...

[–] pwalshj@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Those scumbags will ticket work vans if they are below quota b/c they assume you're too busy to fight it.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I wouldn't mind China arresting fox news for being political agitators. Those "Press" badges are fake.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

They themselves argued successfully in court that they're entertainment, not news. So yes.

[–] FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 month ago

Anyone working at Fox news lacks the emotional capacity to feel humiliation or embarrassment.

[–] Vinylraupe@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 month ago

Humiliated for USians: Has to deal with the consequences of a legal system 🤣🤣🤣🤣

[–] CoolSouthpaw@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Good. Fuck Fox News.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 1 month ago

Hahahahaha suck it Faux.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

The world would be a better place if everyone in the US treated these bigots and freaks as heavy handedly as Chinese citizens do

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I'm just glad Faux "News" was humiliated

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

There's jaywalking laws here??? That's news to me.
