Well now... I still do think you can tell a lot about a person from how they speak of the dead, but under the circumstances this is a level of restraint I would struggle to achieve.
This statement is truthful if you know McConnell.
The guy who stole 3 seats on the Supreme Court is going to wait out the clock on his own replacement even when he's likely not even breathing on his own. Fuck everything about this timeline.
If we had a free independent press any more, all reputable news outlets would be writing about this every single day to apply pressure for proof of consciousness, so they can't drag this out until the deadline.
They would demand that his office, which released a statement saying "The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session”, prove that they weren't outright LYING.
They would go around asking his spokespeople to answer questions on camera and hound them, "is McConnell conscious?", "Will you release a photo of him with his eyes open?", "Why did his wife go to Beijing?" etc etc.
But they won't. Because we don't have a free independent press any more. A few journalists will speculate. None will keep demanding answers until they get them. Just the talking heads speculating.

The article has a point. His death being manipulated and leveraged politically to keep a seat for the Republicans is exactly what he would have wanted.
And republicans have no shame or morals so they would absolutely do something like that.

It is exceedingly difficult for a medical professional to differentiate between brain death and just being a republican representative.
But he's always been brain dead.
The public has the right to know McConnell's medical fitness for office at any time.
He hasn't been fit for anything in years, physically or mentally.
Rep. Tom Kean was missing for four months without much explanation and there have been no consequences.
Even Speaker Mike Johnson suggested Kean should have said more sooner at a news conference Tuesday: “If it were me, I would have been more specific about that, and I encouraged him to be.”
Dude won his primary unopposed while he still missing.
In my opinion if an elected official can't respond to a request for physical proof of fitness for the job by those they supposedly represent then they should automatically be removed from office and elections for a fit replacement is called.
