Samsung will probably anonymize the collected data and won't link it to individuals
Funny as balls
"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Easy choice.
This sort of blackmail term change is despicable.

How much are Samsung paying them for this info?
/s
I'm sure they'd be happy to sell you a service based on the data they took hostage from you.
Screw that.
I've deleted all my "fit app" type stuff a few years ago. It was clear where this is heading.
Easy, delete it bitches.
question: what open source alternatives are there?
I use GadgetBridge to connect my smart watch to my phone and track sleep patterns, exercise, etc. the source, and available on FDroid.
I use paseo which can be found on fdroid. Simple step counter and is able to show you metrics on your walking behavior.
If you're interested in counting your steps and the distance you walk I really recommend stepsy. You can get it on fdroid and it's really good in my opinion
Second it
Stepsy. I switched over a year ago after it became obvious Samsung was going to do this.
FYI there's a "stepsy" on Google play store that is completely different than the stepsy on f droid. So you might want to call out the source as well as the name.
Oh yeah, I didn't think of that. Fdroid one.
Does it do things like gps log your run, or other activities like swimming or skiing?
I still use it on for my Samsung watch, but i just dont give it network permission. The advantage of being on graphene os.
The data, or the user?
Their payment method.
Hm, I should let them do this then. My data is anomalous and hence poisoning the training.
That just means even anonymized it can be traced back to you.
That's OK, I dgaf.
I don't know, I know it says some users but I didn't get any kind of pop-up or notification yet and that AI setting is off for me. In fact the only consent settings that are on are health records and location data.
I mostly just track some workouts (and I had turned on that records setting while I was connecting a provider just to try it). I've also tracked calories in there at times. I haven't noticed any issues syncing my data between devices, and really I don't care if they have some backup somewhere of it, so I don't feel like I'm being strong armed into anything (yet).
