I was on the BART the other day coming back from SFO and one of those idiots with a giant speaker came on an started swinging from all the bars in some kind of dance I guess? It went on for way too long - almost the whole time between SF and Oakland. Then he had the gall to ask for a tip? Are you out of your GD mind? STFU and get your swinging feet out of my face.

RELATED COMMUNITIES:
Depends where you are. In Japan it seems to also be the train or the bus.
Just make it the default and create small spaces where you’re allowed to talk
Japan already doing this.
Movie theatres.
That used to be the way. Why'd it change?
Enforced by tall goth girls.

What's she gonna do, sit on me?
Smothered and shushed. That'll learn ya
I only support capital punishment for making noise on public transit if a Bluetooth speaker or speakerphone is involved.
For all other forms of noisemaking, a few decades of hard labor would be sufficient punishment.
Perfect, all I need now it to set up a boombox in transit to remove all of my political opponents
I'm a public bus driver, and I think I'm one of the few drivers who enforce this rule. I tell em "you can have your speakers on, or you can ride the bus, but you can't do both!" About 10% of people absolutely lose their shit.
Thank you for your service!
That's real hero shit. Bus drivers here don't even say anything.
Speakerphones, anywhere outside of a single room.
Absolutely start your call on speakerphone. I will not blame you for your desire to know whether your call connected. But transfer off when you’re certain that someone else is on the line!
I was shopping for bulk cheap earbuds, so I can hand them out to those in need.
Do most phones have headphone jacks nowadays? I feel like there was a fuss about their absence, a few years ago. I don’t imagine you can find Bluetooth headphones for less than $30. Could get pricy pretty quick
I was shopping for 3.5mm wired earbuds (10 for $8 with no mic) and USB-C wired earbuds (10 for $16 with no mic).
It’s pretty expensive to get either lightning earbuds or adapters (5 adapters for $7), unfortunately.
This was initiated by me suffering through someone watching a video, not making a call, so I didn’t check the price for ones with mics.
Edit: Just found 10 USB-C earbuds with mic for $20.
In the supermarket queue
I think they have these on NJ Transit or SEPTA? on some train cars during some hours, last I checked (like a decade ago, but they were planning to expand it). It was very embarrassing when I was visiting and didn't know it, sat down in the quiet car with some friends and started chatting because it was virtually empty compared to the other cars. Oops, turns out that's why
An end car is the quiet car on NJT in my experience. Not that it stops people from talking loudly
