Energy prices have been high since the US-Israel war with Iran began and the strait of Hormuz was blocked

US gas prices this month are so far the highest ever recorded for August as peace talks between the US and Iran have stalled and Donald Trump launched fresh threats against Oman.

The national average price of gas was $4.06 per gallon on Monday, according to data from AAA, $0.05 higher than last week and $1 more expensive than a year ago. In California and Hawaii, averages hit about $5.50 a gallon.

Energy prices have been high since the US-Israel war with Iran began at the end of February and the strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway through which a fifth of the oil passes, was blocked.

The highest, so far.

It's a good thing the Americans voted in the worst presidential is US history only to double down and do it again. Absolutely zero faith in your average American voter. Good luck 🙃

Seems a bit of oversimplification. Even in the districts of "The Squad" elected Trump. AOC asked her constituents why they elected Trump, a lot of it is more like protest votes on the neoliberal Democrats and failure to address the cost of living crisis. At the very least, Americans are finally waking up to take charge by primarying neoliberals away, rather than simply following the silly thought terminating cliché that is "vote blue no matter who."

[–] skeezix@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

You don’t understand. This just makes them angrier at Obama.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

Ah, I hope that MAGA is enjoying the day it voted for.

[–] pirate2377@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Now watch as they either suddenly stop caring about gas prices, delude themselves into thinking its good actually, or they all collectively start to have amnesia. They did the same moves when it came to the affordability crisis, the Epstein files, and even the war with Iraq. Maybe gas prices will finally be the straw that turns people away from MAGA, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Everytime i see a pic of him pointing like that, it surprises me after all these years that the "small hands" comment is legit.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 34 points 4 days ago (4 children)

I drive a 20 year old gas guzzling Audi but honestly: good. Like meat, we need to allow these prices to increase until it’s painful so people eventually switch to sustainable modes of transportation (and food).

Personally, I just want EVs so come down in price before I make the switch.

Personally, I just want EVs to include one surveillance -free option before I make the switch

My car got totalled 2 months before this bullshit war started and I am getting a bike today. Haven't paid a penny to the oiligarchy.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 days ago

I bought my used Bolt EUV for $19k in February. Charging at home costs about 1/3 what it cost to fuel my RAV4 at the time, so probably more like 1/4 or 1/5 now. If you can't charge at home, it doesn't really make sense to switch since it's barely cheaper and way less convenient to use DC fast charging.

The price is already comparable to ICE vehicles unless you're looking at something that's luxury or flashy. For people who can charge at home and need to buy a car today, it almost never makes sense to pick a gas car anymore. The time is finally here.

"Elections have consequences".

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

The last time they negotiated in good faith with the kushner/trump crime family they bombed their leader and his entire family including grandchildren so why would they negotiate?

What's worse is that diesel is more sensitive to supply shocks so it's significantly higher than gas now and that's what affects the overall economy more because practically everything big runs on diesel. Think delivery trucks, construction and ag equipment, freight trains, marine shipping. Get ready for the unlubed dildo of inflation buddy.

Stalled? Didn't Iran say "we had enough, we'll just wait for the next president or accept $300B"?

[–] bunnybunny@lemmy.zip 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Probably Biden’s fault /s

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 16 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Y'all uncomfortable enough to overthrow this piece of shit yet?

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You draw the line at gas prices? Terrorizing innocent people, kidnappings in the middle of the streets, and concentration camps are not moving the needle, but gas price are worth revolting against your government?

I'd like to say this is very American but I'm pretty sure my fellow Canadians would do the same. The priority is low gas prices and the economy. The environment, immigrants, others... those are not our concern.

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I would have drawn the line at a billionaire pedophile rapist sex trafficking monster, but I'm not American. My country will be invaded by America in the near future.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That’s when we do get some agency in fighting their shit

Gotta look at the positives

That reply with your username

Fucking platinum

[–] moldy_rice@piefed.keyboardvagabond.com 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wut? This is like the only good thing he did

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago (32 children)

I mean he's actively destroying American hegemony, so he's accidentally a great man of history, lol.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And unintentionally pushing the world towards renewables. Don't get it twisted, this is purely accidental due to insane incompetence, not like he's doing this to help humanity like Leto II in Dune or something.

Lemmy's call for Americans to revolt is fucking laughable. There's this dialogue of oh this guy is such a fascist that we should all quit our jobs and revolt. Have you guys seen seen any revolution ever? Nothing happens until there is a crazy crisis like mass starvation/food insecurity combined with organized movement, a strong figurehead, and cracks in existing leadership. People don't just decide to revolt one day cause they're dissatisfied.

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

Sorry for the impatience, I guess it's too late anyway in terms of biodiversity loss and climate change. Just sucks about the world war your country is trying to start, I guess.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Got guns, got ammo, just need more than myself and one friend to get onboard.

That said, around my very rural, Trump-supporting town, there has been an odd lack of MAGA hats the last couple of months. Maybe we're close.

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Same, leftist in a hick town. The yokels around here are dumber than rocks and even they aren't flying trump colors anymore. Guy up the road had a shitbox truck with big trump flags on the back, he would take around town and rev his engine because he's got lead lined brain. Even that massive intellect took down the trump flags, now it's just two US flags lol.

I don't trust it tho. Next time we've got a dem president it will be all tea party and took'rjerbs and socialism scare tactics and we will be right back here again in 10 years.

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Small town in TN - I can't remember the last time that I have seen a flag and the giant warehouse of the stupid merch shut down due to no business.

Jesus, thank you.

We should pass a law that doesn't let the prices go down, ever. If the cost to produce goes down, any extra profit would go straight to development of renewable energy plants

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks for the reminder.... We are close to $7 bucks a gallon. Common in Europe, but never heard of here in the states:

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Just wait until they can't pump out any more from the SPR. My bet is that the US will be higher than Europe.

[–] Prairie_Madness@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That's gonna be wild when it runs out. I think we only have a few weeks left at the current rate

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

Time to do a pump n run! LOL. Get your 5000 gallon barrels ready!

[–] blackberry28@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Lol that's still insanely cheap compared to gas prices in germany lol. If I convert Euro to Dollar and Liter to Gallons, we have prices of over $9 per gallon lol
