Don't worry, I'm drinking enough for several people so it evens out.

[–] Alienz8mypopcorn@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

If you're a millennial like I am, I feel like we're the Atlas for the alcohol industry, lmao.

I really enjoy the mellowing out effect but I have that crappy East Asian gene (or lack of specific genes?) that can't process alcohol so I turn red and get headaches right away. You guys will have to drink for me.

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, we all gotta pick up the pace. It's not gonna drink itself.

I'm doing my part!

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I finna grip n’ sip

[–] TrackShovel@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

I make a mean Manhattan. Dubonnet instead of vermouth, and drunken cherries. Just enough Dubonnet to change the whiskey's colour

[–] socsa@piefed.social 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is a very serious problem. The next generation is going to grow up and be super lame. The coolness gap is a serious threat to our nation al security.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

By that metric, I had to stop drinking because I was way too fucking cool all the time 😄

Coming up on 9 years in roughly a month and a half 🥳

[–] socsa@piefed.social 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's ok brother just like we all get vaccines in part to protect those who can't, so too will we aspire to backfill the alcoholic coolness in solidarity with those who are unable to contribute themselves. For England.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Luckily, tasty nonalcoholic beer now exists, so I'll toast to that! 🍻

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

I'm not sober, but I have tried some NA beers, and they're surprisingly good. I have also tried some of the old ones that were pretty nasty. I don't really know why the old ones were bad, or how we now have good ones, but it's nice to see.

[–] Deniz@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

yeah but more people are using weeds and other shi now so I think it balances out

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Making your own is easy and dirt cheap.

[–] bluejayway@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

they lobby against weed in the usa so if you’re living here maybe don’t

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Weed won't grant me an early death.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 7 points 2 days ago

Hit em where it hurts, cut alcohol, sugar, fat foods, ...

Be healthy AND make em squirm? Count me in.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Does that mean the price of liquor is gonna drop? Cause NOT SO FAR.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 53 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Other way around. Modern capitalism dictates that as sales drop, prices must rise so profits can remain the same or continue increasing.

[–] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Probably, yeah, because as the casuals drop out, only hardcores will remain, and they are frankly willing / compelled to pay more. So they will.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah about that.. nothing modern about it. That's what it was supposed to be by the old observations when people had actual scarcity of .. wheat and corn or whatever.

It doesn't work for alcohol today. There are still people doing moonshine brew because it can't get cheap enough. The demand will never reach a bottom nor a peak.

It's layers of markets. If you can't sell your shit brew at "market price" you can always dump the price and reach a new market of bottom feeders or go the other way and pay influencer to make a silly drinking game to make artificial scarcity in the upper market.

There's always enough supply and demand that everything is possible.

[–] yaroto98@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

With fewer people smoking, the price of cigs sure didn't drop.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Now that... That is interesting man. I've never thought about that.

But WHY?!

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Most of the cost is production and taxes. If demand falls, production resources (land etc) are diverted to more profitable crops. This makes supply fall until prices reach a new equilibrium.

Taxes then add a fixed offset to that.

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

With the world going to shit, drinking helps. Something will kill you sooner or later.

[–] pitiable_sandwich540@feddit.org 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Then why not something special like heroin or meth? Go out with a bang and all. Or reject reality and do LSD, DMT or shrooms? Alcohol is so basic, smh...

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I like weed and shrooms, but they're super illegal where I live now, I fortunately.

[–] imvii@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

We can get LSD by mail in Canada now, It's cheap and the quality is amazing.

[–] Zacryon@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago
[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I switched to heroin years ago.

Highly recommended.

[–] TrackShovel@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago

Christopher injecting it into his foot on the sopranos is burnt into my brain

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Pfft that's rookie stuff

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

I don't even have alcohol at home anymore.

[–] Phoenix3875@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Technically, everyone is doing their part in the matter of a number being record low.

[–] Kwakigra@beehaw.org 5 points 2 days ago

Alcohol kind of sucks compared to other drugs. Anything alcohol does something else does a lot better with less liver damage.

[–] celeste@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago

I mostly use alcohol to desinfect equipment since it's a cell poison.

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I bet it's been replaced by the Devils lettuce (in the US at least).

[–] lengau@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly so much cheaper too (at least in Michigan).

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

And healthier.

I mean I neither drink alcohol nor toke, but I've heard mj is the lesser of the two evils, for those who can't resist mind-altering substances.

[–] honesthenery@thelemmy.club 4 points 2 days ago

I smoke weed i don't regret my actions... I drink and if I am lucky I don't wind up in jail. The same with the cocain. Devils lurk in this body and the weed keeps them in permajail

[–] clifmo@programming.dev 4 points 2 days ago

It's so hot, I have to drink salts to prevent headaches. What on earth would I want alcohol?

[–] dregan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

So the price of whisky is gonna be reasonable again, right?...........right?........
