Denuvo has done some homework, though. The filing lists a Discord user ID, a Reddit account and seven Steam profiles that it believes are linked to the cracker.

Denuvo hopes the information linked to these accounts will eventually unmask the cracker. Games have to be bought before they can be cracked, for example, and Steam purchases come with payment details.

I hope this person has good OPSEC.

For anyone unfamiliar, I strongly recommend Michael Bazzell's book Extreme Privacy for a fantastic entry into this world. It covers much more than your typical OPSEC stuff, but it is thorough, well written, and fun to learn about.

FWIW, untold numbers of people share their sanitized Steam files for the greater good. Very few, if any, well-known "crackers" purchase all of the games they help do what it says on their tin.

This claim by Denuvo is not just asinine, but proves even further that they're absolute idiots in their field. 🙄

    So?

Then don't put that fucking malware in games and it won't be bypassed, problem solved.

"bypassing drm" isn't a crime any more than walking past someone on a sidewalk is.

it is in the USA, unfortunately.

    https://www.jurisstate.blog/is-removing-drm-illegal#is-it-illegal-to-remove-drm-for-personal-use

But then, we also treat walking past someone on the sidewalk as a crime here as well, if that someone is a bored or angry cop.

I like voices38; they allowed me to finish AC Shadows because the story ending is hidden behind DLC

Yup, the story doesn't really finish at the end of the main questline but even the dlc ending felt kinda unfinished.

Gotta leave the door open for even more dlc if the corporate overlords decree it.

It's also the same format all the modern AC games have had. And the endings in the base game are fine, open-ended but more or less complete. All the dlc did was bring more context to a side character that wasn't really relevant to the main story.

I see Denuvo in a game, I don’t buy or even pirate said game.

Yeah, and they've been kinda shitty in various forums, too. Can't always be a beacon of hope, I guess.

That said, it seems to be a fairly lively scene, with many new teams popping in every month. I, for one, welcome these anonymous freedom fighters, no matter their number, gender, or background. 🤞🏼

Its funny how the free market is only good when it benefits capitalists. The moment someone makes them lose money competition is over and its time to sue others

they are NOT losing money. I would never buy this garbage to begin with. I'd pirate it to try it, but once I saw how utter shit they are I wouldn't even play the pirated copies.

    they are not losing money

They aren't, but they have the understanding of literal children. They can't process the fact that a pirated game isn't a lost sale, because to them every single person on the planet wants what they have to offer, and if they get it any way OTHER than buying it outright at full price, CLEARLY it must be theft and people are targeting them specifically because what they have is so great.

I pirated Minecraft back in the beta days, decided I loved it, and eventually bought it (before notch went full mask off and the sale of mojang) had it not been for TPB, mojang would have had one less sale.

Same for several others. Hilariously, the only time I ever recieved a c&d was for a game I loved and then canceled the online order for when I got the letter two days later. I wanted to buy it, but the letter made up my mind that I was never giving them money again. Fuck em. Dead rising went downhill after the first one anyway so I didn't miss much.

Executives view life as a zero-sum game.

TBF, every time some corpo fuckstick parrots "theft", I'm reminded that none of them want any of us to dig into the age-old tradition of wage theft. That's theft, and what they're constantly whinging about plainly isn't.

"Every year in this country (US), workers lose more money to wage theft than is lost to all forms of property crime (robberies, burglaries, larceny and motor vehicle theft) combined. Each year, well over $15 billion is stolen from workers by their employers; each year, less than 3% of that total is recovered for those same workers.

Employers steal their workers’ wages in a variety of ways:

    • Paying less than the minimum wage
    • Not paying overtime or misclassifying workers as “exempt” from overtime pay
    • Not paying workers for all hours worked
    • Taking illegal deductions from workers’ paychecks
    • Not paying the prevailing wage in government contracting
    • Automatically deducting for breaks that workers don’t get
    • Stealing workers’ tips
    • Not paying workers’ last paychecks..."

    (More here.)

    p.s. In 2025, that "$15 billion" was actually $50 billion+. 🤢🤕

It's denuvo suing, in a sense if the uncrackable game service they claim is now crackable, they will lose customers

but this is like advertising you are the best and then sue anyone that is better to maintain your position
