Hacker News is a case study in what inevitably happens to “apolitical” spaces. Politics and society are bifurcating, and Hacker News is taking the fork on the right. “Apolitical” is an excuse to favor the status quo, a resistance to change, and therefore a re-enforcement of the existing biases and power structures of society. It’s no surprise that Hacker News favors capitalism, opposes labor, and objects to questioning the privileges of its largely white, male, middle-class audience. It’s “political” and “ideological” for it to do anything else.

Well, it's certainly not Tankie like lemmy. None of the examples of flagged posts surprises me. I think it's the wording more than the political bias. Right wing drive by comments would also get flagged. Political submissions, even related to technology get flagged regardless of bias. Hell, currently there is an active discussion of Georgism...

You just can't post low effort garbage like "Always been a fash cesspit." like you can on lemmy/reddit...

I for one enjoy HN because the discussions seem focused on the topics at hand, which in most cases, is related to technology. I understand shit is bad but sometimes it's good to have spaces where the top comments aren't angry or complaints. I go to Lemmy for more political content and discussion... Different places for different things.
