Donald Trump is promising more payments to voters just ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections — this time, to more than 20 million seniors, giving them $90 each to help pay for Medicare premiums.

The announcement, made late Friday night by Trump on social media, comes after the president last month said about 1 million people would get rebate checks of $500 for Affordable Care Act premiums. He has also promised on the campaign trail to send every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

That pledge — which would require approval from Congress — would likely cost more than $1 trillion, adding to the deficit and worsening inflation.

Despite all the replies, people, in general, are smarter than this. Especially when they are being faced with real material problems like they are now. They don't care about some imaginary threat of immigrants or trans children playing sports when they can't afford to drive to the grocery store.

There will be tons of people still voting for Republicans. But, on average, this country is not that stupid. This midterms are going to be such a blowout, that my only worry is that the Trump administrations only defense will be to say they were ridged and send in the national guard. That's how much they're about to get smoked.

    No, they are not.

If they were, they would not have elected a blatant con artist TWICE.

The average American voter usually votes off vibes they get from the one or two direct exposures to candidates one or two weeks before an election.

And that's ONLY in the 5-10 states in the US that actually have campaign ads running because that state is actually close enough to have a chance of being contested.

40-45 of the states in each presidential election are essentially fueling a politics of indifference.

That feeling of indifference disappears when the material effects of politics actually impact people's lives. People suddenly care when they start realizing that all that stupid political shit is making their lives worse.

The average voter is not spending each day listening to the news, listening to political discourse, you are "weird" for even commenting about politics. You and I are weird. We look at politics and care about the impact it has on the lives of others and that don't impact us directly. We are weird.

Why do you think suddenly Trump has lost popularity with 40% of the people that once supported him? If you're going to criticize their stupidity; you need to acknowledge their newfound "intelligence".

Sure, I think it should be 100%. But you're acting like it's 0%.

Well but that's all Biden's fault according to the stickers so why wouldn't they vote for Trump's party who is working their darndest to solve the mess Biden got America into with Iran and fuel prices?

    $90 whole dollars! I'm saved!

I'll take his $90, use the money to pay for anti-Trump yard signs, and still vote against every MAGA, and for the most Socialist candidates I can find.

  • Cuts to medicare/medicaid because sOcIaLiSm.

Claims to give money to those who use is...sounds a bit like socialism to me. That and an illegal bribe to buy votes

Less than a weeks groceries is the best they can do!?

Seniors need real protections not gimmicky rebates.

Yeah, one Arby's combo meal, thanks

I wonder how much money this clown has made since being President?

If you want to be rich in America, be like Trump. He learned that you can make a LOT more money as a politician than a businessman, even while working half as much (at most, I'd be shocked if he worked more than a couple hours a day).

He has always been a little slow, took him long enough to figure things out.

According to a recent article he's made more stock trades than all of Congress combined while acting at president the past year and a half. Over 600 trades in July alone.

Imagine a Democrat president that made any trades.

Shit I still remember when Obama was excoriated for "picking winners and losers" after they put money into a company that built wind turbines solar panels (which eventually went under).

Edit: had to Google the name, which immediately gave me a physiological reaction when I saw it again for the first time in years: Solyndra.

I guess they made solar panels, not wind turbines.

And that was the US government, not Obama as an individual. He had to be above reproach, because the whites in this country were angry and rabid.

What we are experiencing is a direct result of those people who's minds were permanently broken by having to live 8 years with a black president.

90 dollars is meaningless chump change. Especially when he is bandying about the 5,000 dollar amount. People, donate! If you can't afford a house maybe you can collectively afford to buy a senator or a governor! Compete with those big moneymen who buy people! /s

No see, it's not illegal because Trump is doing it as an act of being President to "save America from CoMmUnIsM or some shit and the Supreme Court said that it's fine for the President to commit crimes because the SC is a joke of an institution.

  • Yeah. As soon as we get the Doge checks, tariff refund and election bribe money. Is anyone still dumb enough to believe this? Sadly, I think the answer might be, yes.

P.S. if and maga people will give me $4000 I'll give you my entire $5000 Doge check when it arrives. It's a really good deal

What's funny us Gus average voter is fervently against "handouts" like the covid stimulus checks because of "muh inflation". Yet they'll probably eat this up.

I still remember George W Bush running the promise to give all of Clinton's budget surplus back to Americans. $600 per adult, handed out just before 9/11. Dude got handed a balanced budget and promptly went $100B into deficit. Even before 2 decades of war.

Mean while many southern states say giving water to people waiting in line to vote is influencing people to vote a certain way. Not gonna lie here, if a MAGA gave me a bottle of water and a hot dog while I waited, with the express intent that i vote for an orange candidate, id tell them Im gonna vote MAGA for the meal. Then vote blue

trump gives nothing. If you somehow did receive a check eventually, it's your own (taxpayer) dollars. Does anyone, first hand, actually know anyone stupid enough to think thisis a win for them?

    Answer: ALL OF THEM.
