In German it's "Schluss". Obviously related but not funny, sorry.

It's almost like languages are related.

"The end" would be "slutet". "Slut" is just "end".

Forgive me father, for I have slutet 🙏

Jokes on you (me), I grew up without a dad, which I think makes this slightly funnier...
    ...or really, really sad

If you turn a noun into a past participle verb like that, it would mean something like "forgive me father, I have brought about the end"

There's a joke in there, I think you've got to lean harder on the wordplay

Listen...this was literally the first thought that popped in my head upon seeing this, I wasn't trying to put effort into it. This is a dumb, dumb joke, even for my usual dumb jokes 😂
The part about my dad isn't a joke tho :/

And it could also be "stop" or "stop it".

In norwegian? In swedish that would be "sluta".

A coworker of mine from Brazil was visiting another coworker of mine in Sweden. I saw the screenshot of the snap he sent while on the train:
"Yeah, of course this is where you live..". Pictured was a photo of the train information sign saying "StopName (slutstation)".

I'll leave it as an exercise for the (non-scandinavian) readers to interpret what "Slutstation" actually means.

Something like 80% of Swedish / Norwegian / Danish is mutually understandable between the languages so a Swedish and Danish speaker can easily have a normal conversation entirely in their own languages and be understood perfectly well.

In Swedish and I dont understand Danish at all. Norwegian is ok, I can understand parts of it. But Danish is super different. However, the Danish seems to understand Swedish much easier.

Same with Spanish and Portuguese. If the other person drops sounds, it's harder to understand than if the other person sprinkles in sounds you might even still write. Same with merging sounds. I think Norwegian reduces a lot more unstressed vowels than Swedish and Danish is even worse.

I’ve noticed the same. We seem to understand Swedish and Danish better than you understand us/eachother.
Swedish is easy, Danish is OK but I need to focus a bit.

I always figured it was because we imported your TV shows in the 90’s, so if that’s the resson, it should decline with the younger generation.
    Time will tell.

Some of it is probably that Danish and Norwegian TV has aired a lot of Swedish programs over the past decades. By contrast, it's only in Skåne that Danish TV is aired regularly. Nowadays a lot of Norwegian TV is being aired in Sweden but it's a pretty new phenomenon.

But I think the big reason is that Danish is a genuinely weird language. Danish children learn to speak significantly slower than other kids.

It's crazy that by age 2, Danish children are almost 6 months behind in speech development compared to Swedish, Spanish, Sudanese and South Korean children. So it really is a difficult language to get your ear used to.

I have no personal experience being an English speaker just got talking to a couple once that we're Swedish / Norwegian and I asked which they spoke to each other and they just said "whichever, doesn't really matter"

Now i know why Trump is pissed at Norway. They won't fuck with him, and he thinks they're sluts.
