But machine learning and neural networks is literally AI. By saying LLM is not an AI, you're essentially arguing English language.

You really do not look as good as you think you do when you say stuff like that.

Yeah, I prefer to call them LLMs too for accuracy. People really need to realize ChatGPT isn't the only, or final, or most intelligent form of AI. It's just the first model an average user can talk to. LLMs overshadowed other AIs way too much, and thus people are now being dumb and inserting LLMs everywhere even though specialized AI would do the trick and better.

I can accept calling LLMs “AI” because machine learning is a branch of AI and they are also able to figure things out, so especially when combined with a capable harness, they legitimately are artificially intelligent. However, LLMs aren’t “super intelligence” that vastly surpasses human capability, and instead are basically nifty tools for automating grunt work. Given they seem to be leveling off and we are seeing more incremental improvements instead of exponential gains at this point, “super intelligence” is unlikely to be an apt term for a long time to come, if ever for LLMs.

I prefer “just a full-text search engine with lossy compression”. Reducing it to the low-level ops is kind of a cop-out, especially when there is a serious analogue that we’ve been using for decades, and the key innovation here was basically just “what if we do it worse?”

I don't see any reason why not start calling it SI.

I really want to see the US companies being forced or fined because they are using AI instead of SI. Force-rebrand OpenSI, make them (and all other US AI companies) change all their marketing materials and force them to scrub mentions of AI from all of their texts. Forbid them from ever using it again, instead of SI.

It would be so funny, a PR and marketing shitshow and I'm here for it.

And as a bonus, we can finally give back the AI term to gamedev. Searching for any materials in regards to NPC/game AI has been a nightmare.

    I call it pretentious indexing©.

Edit: just realized that indexing doesn't cover output/presentation, but still.

I'm gonna laugh if the secret to consciousness is just two fancy matrices at a weird angle.
