Schleswig-Holstein migrated and it cost 9 million. Which was offset by about 16 million in license fees that they saved by migrating to open source and own datacentres.

    Sounds extremely worth it.

yeaaaaah... thats not really that impressive given the 2026 GDP of the entire EU is measured in the trillions, not billions.

22.806 trillion euro as GDP nominal an 30.929 trillion GDP PPP

At the moment. The longer it goes on the higher the cost.

How much would it raise though? Money staying in the EU as well.

The report argues that restrictions favoring European cloud providers would leave governments and businesses facing hefty bills to migrate workloads and rewrite software. It puts direct public-sector costs at €33.3 billion, with a further €80 billion potentially falling on private companies in sectors including banking, healthcare, energy, and transport.

So those €115B is the cost of decoupling from Trumpland. If governments go Linux and FOSS in their software, that will save so much money in the long run

Those hefty bills to migrate will be paid to European IT companies, which will handle the migration. I am assuming they do not have a big HQ in Ireland and pay their proper taxes.

So no matter how we do it, it is always a win for us. Biggest challenge is convincing people using Linux and FOSS products.

But it tells me the US Mag7 are worried, if they threaten us with such a hefty bill. 🤣
