Open Source: are we a joke to you?

If only the Software actually functioned, and didn't require the quality of life of half a small City, the theft of the labor of hundreds of thousands to millions of human authors and foss programmers, and more Power including Training than all of the combined Watt hours of the Humans who wrote it in the First place.

    or some Shit.

If you reverse engineer and open source it, its not really theft as you are making it available to everyone.

    Who trained the LLM, dumbass?

Would you still apply that to open models?

What you mean by "open"? Whether or not a model has open weights has nothing to do with how the training data was obtained.

Are there any ethically trained LLM models currently available? Asking because I'm going to set up my own service for my family

In my opinion, no, but I'm sure others will disagree. I've heard there are models trained only on public, open source data, but I don't know the names of any of them off-hand.

Personally I think the much more important ethical dilemma is deciding whether or not this grand attempt to mechanize the thinking/feeling parts of our lives is an insult to human dignity (yes, it is).

True. But also sometimes it's nice to have the computer sort 500 things into categories and fix the 5 mistakes; instead of doing it all manually. Or check my email for mistakes before I send it. That kind of shit that I don't want to do

Who did this meme? Didn't they watch the movie?

It won't be long now before a P-51 called "Congress and the judiciary" swoops in and bombs REA with some "rules for thee" bullshit. That will complete the third panel of this meme.

Anti-circumvention laws already exist and carry penalties including prison, it only takes one judge to create case law that this kind of reverse engineering is circumvention and then it'll disappear from the commercial Internet.

The safest way to go is to create the software from scratch, using reversed engineered proprietary software to make a different, but very similar, product is a legal minefield and largely unnecessary given that the same AI time that goes into reverse engineering the project could be directed towards making a clean room replacement which could completely avoid those legal issues while still replacing the product with a FOSS product.

Yea, we need a Panel 3 with the Rocket Launcher Guy plane as an actually human foss developer.

    Tried WordCraft on Debian today.

Document looked good. Was started from a Word template

Time to save, click browse, give name, click save. New file didn't appear though. Try again but in Home folder, this time it saved.

Some basics still a little touchy. Finished it off in Libre instead, then had to go back and save as DOCX so normal people can still open it.
