Yay! Higher fees for customers and businesses, lower wages for workers, more profit for corporations! The system works!

I'm glad we made all those laws about monopolies and stuff. Would be bad if one were to be created in any sector in this country. But with hard work, and a watchful agency, we can protect ourselves from those dangers.
Sure glad it's all still working. ಠ_ಠ
If they can afford to buy out competitors, they aren't paying drivers and employees enough
The article doesn't say how they're planning to pay for Instacart. They could be planning to take on billions of dollars in debt for all we know.
That still means the same thing though. If they're planning to take billions of debt, they and their lender think they're either making good money today or they'd be making it in the future. Or in other words they can either pay their workers more today or in the future. 😁
Or they are going to do the typical private equity thing and transfer the debt to instacart as soon as they are acquired and then use the debt as an excuse for instacart to go bankrupt in a few years (or months) and walk away one competitor less in the market.
Cool. Previously I never used two companies.
Now I only have to never use one.
Perfect.
Hey ABC News, the word that you were looking for is Monopoly.
Remember when we had functional anti trust investigations? I miss those days. I miss Linda 😭
Gross. Let's bring back the Bull Moose party and start busting up all these shitty megacorporations!
This is obviously a resounding win for the workers and customers, right?
Right?
Careful, you'll have cherrypickers coming in to defend/tell you how wrong you are for disliking "gig economy" apps when they're a literal scam meant to keep the middle and lower classes subservient.
These cherrypickers are apparently making bank just doing these deliveries though, and we totally shouldn't question their methods, how many apps they actually work for, or whether they're just straight up lying.
I hate doordash, Ubereats, grubhub, any of them. It's such bullshit to be constantly accepting orders that pay literally $2.50 for driving them a coffee from the one place they need it from across the county.
That's fucking bullshit! Anti-competitive, monopolistic practices like this should be blocked by the anti-trust laws that we have in place to protect against precisely this!
What the fuck.
I get my groceries delivered once a month from Instacart because I'm blind, so if I wanted to go grocery shopping myself, I would have to spend money on an Uber to take me there, then get a shopping assistant to help me pick up the stuff I need, and then pay for an Uber back home, so it actually ends up being cheaper to just get it delivered, and I can see what I'm purchasing in the app.
i see where its disabled people use apps like prime whole food shopping too. its useful for these people. also well off people use it to, so they dont have to spend time to go to the store when they are working at home.
Flabbergasted that people will pay so much to have McDonald's delivered.

I wonder if it’s gotten so expensive to eat out, that the delivery fee doesn’t appear as bad any more (comparatively)
It was 40-fucking-dollars to get two meals at carls Jr. I’ll never go there again and would rather buy local than a chain, but even another $10 wouldn’t look too bad for delivery
I don’t do delivery so idk what the actual cost is
instacart already barely pays its instore shoppers, something to do with what kind of orders are given to them. also different chains grocery will probably limit how much instacarts are in a grocery chain at anyone time.
they started even before amazon had thier instore shoppers(now wf shoppers), and they dint really get big at all.
This shouldn't be allowed. We need to stop letting corporations consolidate.
That aside, I don't think I've ever used either of these. I used to use seamless for restaurant delivery, but not so much anymore. Shit's too expensive.
We don't have a functioning government. If we did this wouldn't be allowed along with the other massive consolidations going on.
I'm no journalist, but something tells me 'consolidation' is the correct term for acquiring another corporation.
Anti-trust bullshit will be the death of us if we don't get our poop in a group
How is this not a monopoly?
Because competition is bad.
This feels like that bit about Taco Bell in Demolition Man. Idk, who would win each fight?
One network TV: Warner.
One US internet access, the utility and the equipment: FCC Inc.
One social media: Meta (because Elon will get bored and Spaz will sell out, but Zuckerberg only knows how to be the asshole he is in one specific way). Probably.
Blackrock, Health and Food divisions.
One computing component manufacturer: Nvidia.
Never mind how all of the above is supposed to be illegal.
Republicans in charge will do anything but dare to put up guardrails for these giant companies. They've long since decided not to regulate them, so corporations are free to merge, jack up prices, layoff workers, cut services, and create monopolies. The rich won't suffer from it...
