Lots of people just hate it (because blizzard or microtransactions or whatever) and can't understand that people like different things. Ignore the numbers, you got some decent discussion!
I gotchu man.
Overwatch is a good game. No joke. People hate on it not for the game but for the devs. That's why it has negative reviews but such a big player base each day.
overwatch 1. Hero shooter, it was going to be an MMO.
Overwarch 2. Was going to be a new* game with a brand new PVE mode that people have wanted for years. Probably since the first Halloween event. Blizzard decided randomly to scrap that idea after selling it to the fans. Dick move right.
Then they decide to remove the loot system. Which was fine I guess except now everything was 100% battle pass or pay for special things.
This is where I gave up. Because in a nutshell they took overwatch 1 and released overwatch 1 +1. Only difference is the name, got rid of some freeby features blah blah blah.
That's why people don't like it.
However. It's been out for a long time and a new generation is going from Roblox to more mature games. So if you've never played OW before at all. Then absolutely it's a fun game. And I'm glad you find it fun and have a good time playing it.
Its weird how annoying the battle pass system is. On the one hand I get it, they want that sweet battle pass money that everyone else is getting, and I don't really care about cosmetics anyway.
On the other hand, I paid full price for 1, and was willing to pay for the PvE, and it feels like they just said "fuck you pay me" out of nowhere.
I've been playing for about two months now, after a multi-year break from the game. Just casual, not competitive (although Stadium is classified as competitive). It's great.
Two bad things for me. Flex Queue means Tank, which sucks, because I'd like to play all roles, but now have to just queue DPS/Heal. Also, the matchmaker is shit, so most games are relatively one-sided (Quick Play and Stadium).
OW2 got way better in the past year that I'd say it's a good f2p game, it deserved all the bashing on launch but once they went back on locking heroes and actually started adding new content it's worth a play. Lemmy hates live service though so nobody is going to let you say it out loud without getting mass downvoted.
Yea I noticed. I'm young so even if I want to play co op games, my friends won't join cause you just like instant stress relief fighting games ig.
I really wish there were custom games where they just play like quick play. I do believe its one of the best games out if not for the players. You either meet Sweaty Eddie who's on the mic telling you to kill yourself because he thinks youre not winning hard enough, or the guy who thinks the game is to stand there and spam "hello" and the dance emote at the enemy.
I very very rarely get a game where people are just playing the game and enjoying themselves.
Never faced this problem because I play i south east asian servers. No one ever comms. Which makes ot a little boring for me as I come from Valorant where players talk a lot about strategy compared to ow2. But I'm getting used to it.
You wish there were queues for the custom games like there is for quick play? Trying to understand your comment here.
Like when you look at the list of custom games, instead of just being weird and wonderful game modes and "chill no kill VC 18+" there was also "regular overwatch being played by regular people"
My first question: Did they change the gun play?
Because that feeling I got from OW gun play was "spammy, unsatisfying, boring" either in kill time, movement or timing.
The weapons are simple, but you don't get the arena gameplay of map control, ammunition control and weapon cycling of arena shooters.
A single weapon is not complex to use as a weapon in CS or DirtyBomb.
To be honest Dirty bomb does health and ammo management better.
Everything I hear sounds good, but I never heared them fixing guna.
Nope, the game is and will probably always be spammy. Everyone has unlimited ammo. I definitely prefer this btw.
There's map control of course, just not like arena shooters. Most maps have changing objectives, around which the fights happen.
Instead of more difficult weapons you're managing your abilities and cooldowns.
That's just the kind of game OW is.
Ig thats just how the game is. I loved Valorants gun sounds better. Also the feeling when you 1 tap someone on a tac shooter is too peak. Sadly it's playerbase is too toxic and the game isn't on linux.
You should check out The Finals. Free to play, runs on Linux, guns feel and sound mint, dev studio made up of a bunch of former DICE devs. It’s not everyone’s bag of tea though there’s a lot of decision space in the main Cashout mode.
