The data included names and contacts of government officials, as well as usernames and passwords for the app's backend.

"I would say the whole process took about 15-20 minutes," the hacker told the publication. "It wasn’t much effort at all."

If only they had rules against using personal devices and unapproved software, we could have prevented this.

"only the best people"...

Who believe that no rule from any authority actually applies to them... Cause they're too "smart" and they know better.

🤷‍♂️ 🙄 🤡 🖕

It was super easy. Barely an inconvenience.

It's from the article ...

"I would say the whole process took about 15-20 minutes," the hacker told the publication. "It wasn’t much effort at all."

[–] killingspark@feddit.org 4 points 18 hours ago

Hehe, I get to make a Wooooosh

But it's also a pretty niche reference

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 63 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Anyone know if they've released the hacked data yet?

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 80 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm assuming they're in the process of blackmailing the US administration currently

We'll probably see it after they've extorted who they can

[–] Talaraine@fedia.io 11 points 1 day ago

You're assuming it wasn't a great 'deal' Trump made with Russia

[–] mrcleanup@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Why, need a good number to hand out when you aren't really into someone at the bar and they won't leave you alone?

Wow, Signal is end-to-end encrypted and secure, now switching to some random service that stores all their message is mindblowingly stupid

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 16 points 19 hours ago

Actually, the Signal protocol turned out to be fatally flawed in that, if you added the editor of a major publication to your group chat, all of your conversations would end up on the news the next day. Honestly a pretty egregious vulnerability.

[–] Steve@communick.news 26 points 1 day ago

They got shit for being stupid and using a public FOSS app that skirts the law.

It makes a kind of sense they would switch to something worse, because of the aforementioned stupid part.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

mindblowingly stupid

As are they... 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♀️

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is the Israeli one right? Don’t take this the wrong way, but why would anybody use an Israeli “secure” app, when half the time when there is a breach in government systems or ransom ware, it’s usually using a product from an Israeli firm. They have repeatedly sold their software to anybody, regardless if the client is our enemy or not.

They do make very good cybersecurity software though.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

But Israel and especially Netan-yayhoo are our best buddies... right?

They would do nothing to harm us...

People selling zero-days and exploits dont care for nationalities. They sell to anyone. Anything.
