Sidenote PSA: If you must use a microwave, turn the power down and increase the time proportionally. Use the minimum power if possible. I get that the perceived benefit of a microwave is the speed, but I would argue that it's the automation. It's totally fine to have something in the microwave for an hour, if it will come out better. You can always do other stuff while it's running.
I'm now wondering if I've ever changed the power setting on a microwave.
Give it a shot! The next time you decide to microwave something, try halving the power and doubling the time. The power levels just control how often the magnetron is on.
Second PSA: Many microwaves have the option to disable sound. No more beeps.
