It's been pretty cold here in the northern states. Maybe this can be the last cold December for all the zoomers and gen A to remember.

[–] cogitase@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 week ago

There was a sudden stratospheric warming event over the north pole, disrupting the polar vortex and sending cold air into the eastern US. The frequency and severity of those warming events is increasing due to anthropogenic climate change. It's unlikely this will be the last time Zoomers experience this.

I'm pretty far north and it's just chilly. Must be the pacific ocean climate

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Its not cold until Texas loses power.

Jk that just happens to see if your paying attention.

25 years ago in my hometown in Hungary, my dad literally had to cut through the snow so I could get around. Snow was waist deep for him, and while that was a somewhat extreme winter (as in, the amount of snow we would get), up until around 2008-2010 winters would be proper cold and have snow.

In the past 15 years we've had proper snow maybe once or twice, and even that disappears into disgusting slag within a day or two. That is if temperatures drop below 0C in December which doesn't really happen nowadays.

Yeah same here. We used to have about 40-60cm of snow each winter about 15-20 years ago. We barely even get snow anymore. It just rains in the winter and it's fucking depressing.

We used to go to school on skis at least a few weeks at a time. Last year it had a bit of snow for almost two weeks. And that was a lot compared to the past 10 years

Source: Dean Martin told me it's cold outside.

Definitely one of the more date rapey Xmas songs out there.

It's been colder this first week of December than the whole winter was last year where I am. ‍But not colder than it ever has been. It regularly got this cold in the 90s. I remember my dad having to put insulation on the pipes outside for the lawn spigot because it would freeze over and break the pipes.

That face. That fucking face. It's pure rage bait.

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

I had my air conditioner running today. Fuck Florida.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

December has been cold and snowy here this year. It's kind of nice.

I've posted an original newspaper frontpage on my livingroom wall. It's from the late 1980s, the year and date I was born. It's got a giant photo of a wall of snow, with a small opening dug through it so that a car can pass through.

Title says: Patience! We will have Mediterranean weather in 50 years.

Over the River and Through the Woods was originally a Thanksgiving song.

About a century later, White Christmas was about a Vermont ski resort that didn’t have snow until December.

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 week ago

It is scorching hot, when was December ever cold.

[–] WanderingThoughts 4 points 1 week ago

Warming does disrupt the usual seasons and often turns into something more like rainy and dry season.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 4 points 1 week ago

I mean, the snow part of the winter festivity iconography has had it’s run anyway.

Snow on Christmas? That’s pre-internet for me.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It’s only December 9 and the Chicago area has already had nearly 2 feet of snow fall. It’s going to be a looooooooong winter this year.

[–] Johanno@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

December was never cold. I am the best December there ever was there was no other December better than me!

Who the hell is still talking about Jeffery Epstein? 🫲🍊🫱

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 1 week ago

It didn’t really snow until like last week here. And I live in central Alberta. It’s fucking wild. Not that I’m complaining about that, I just really hate the possible climate implications.

I work outside in northeast Ohio. December is still cold.

[–] Axle182@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I'm too Australian for this hahaha

Canadian here. December is still very cold up here.
