In Germany they are called "wind hounds", since they only work properly while the wind is blowing

Many think that Windhund/vinthund is referring to wind (sighthounds are fast), but it's most likely folk etymology. It's believed the name most likely originated in lower German from the Wends - as sighthounds were mainly known from that region at the time.

Some might say that science has gone too far with this creature but all I'm thinking about when I see it is how much dog there is to pet. Well worth the vacuum electricity bill during shedding season.
