A nice Monday story for us this evening. Much better to read about than the headlines

Oh, I lived in the student halls visible in that video for a year! Must have walked past that tree a thousand times. I always liked it, but had no idea there was a story behind it

“This is a unique urban tree that we are proud to have as part of our city. Its survival against the odds, and reassuring presence, make it a symbol of hope. We want to dream big and think it will speak to people in cities around the world.

If I had any form of Photoshop skills I would make this "meme" with this image instead, I think it would be pretty dope

Here you go! I probably got some of the details of the VCR effect wrong but I think the general look is close enough

The Argyle Ash with the text "if the situation was hopeless their propaganda would be unnecessary" and a VCR-style effect

If your tree is running you have a BIG problem.

It worked out great for Middle Earth, the trees seem cool

Ashes are great for shade just when we need it, as their leaf-season is relatively short. I wonder whether the lack of tree-neighbours helps it avoid the beetles that bring fungi to other ashes. Also how are it’s roots getting water ?

Water is not a problem in Glasgow. https://weather-and-climate.com/average-monthly-precipitation-Rainfall,Glasgow-uk,Scotland - minimum 16 days each month of rain. So every other day sees rainfall in Glasgow. Wet

Rainiest city in the whole UK! And amongst the rainiest in all of Europe too, although there are a few even rainier spots like southern Norway
