Do you take breaks from lemmy at all ?
Alice
Great n u
I personally take little breaks from lemmy. Anywhere from a day or two or for a week. Yes, everyone's got their own opinion about lemmy and have their own experiences, so I'm not speaking for anyone else other then myself here.
But to me, lemmy is pretty extremist, negative, and toxic. For the most part anyway. There are a handful of users and communities that are not toxic but lemmy for the most part, in my view, is idk? A bummer?
There's enough drama and hate already in life, I don't need to be spoon fed that shit on a constant basis. So I have to take breaks from here.
As wild as it may seem, I do not have this problem on Reddit. I've blocked accounts and muted subreddits aggressively, so my feed doesn't have the insesent politics or negativity.
Not knocking you, but that's a lot of work for little to no reward. Once it starts feeling like work, I stop. The point for me, is that it's for fun once it stops being that, or if, then kinda like, why am I doing this for?
The Down Voting
This to me at least, defeats the purpose of doing extensive 'work' for posting in communities. Especially when, lemmy has a specific audience: political, techy, anime, videos games, computing, u get the idea.
In my view, fedi/lemmy not having mainstream or normie appeal, it won't really grow. Factor in heavy handed politcal ideological admining/moderation, you have to ask yourself, who would want to see that all the time and deal with that all the time, when they can just put in a #memes hashtag on X, mewe, Facebook, instagram, or threads, and also post pretty much whatever they want, (Their opinions, food, pets, random life stuff) without having to deal with community rules or some politically motivated 'mod'.
Why do u think they're r like almost zero reddit alternatives? Most ppl aren't interested in forums and the way they operate. Ppl like it easy and simple
Id like for lemmy to grow and be much more diverse in terms of users. Content, opinions, but sadly that just will never happen. And i think it's meant/intended to be that way. A left leaning space which does not want any outsiders or anything or anyone mainstream.
There's also too many passive users and too many lurkers. If u want a social media site/app to succeed, u need The content creators and active users. Those are the users who are going to bring more ppl.
But lemmy is not that.
Most users are far too politically extreme, only lurk, remove what they don't agree with or like, ban ppl left and right (Dissinsentivizing activity) and down vote pretty much any and everything that isn't the core content. (Anime, left wing politics, computing and tech)
Shout out woot woot 🙌
Is that what this was ? (See screen shot below) If so, I'll give you my two cents. Firstly, I banned that account that posted that, and removed the post. Why? Bc i had no idea wtf that was.
I just saw my username tagged with a bunch of usernames and then I look at the username of the person posting it, and it just says test URL HD? Um....
My first thought was is this a doxing post? I had no idea what the hell that was. It took me about 20 minutes and talking to another user to realize that it was just a notification alerting subscribers that the community was moving.
But that's not all, now I have questions. I was looking it up online, and the information I got back is that the only way to see subscribers to Lemmy communities is to go deep into the database to get that information. And that kind of pissed me off and bothered me because it's like what are you trying to do here get my name email and address to like stock me or something? Please don't take that personally I understand you're having an issue with this and you're just trying to do something helpful. So I understand I'm not mad at you or anything cuz I know what it is now.
But I'm not a developer or a programmer, so when I see stuff like that my first instinct is okay somebody's trying to get cute here in dox people or they're up to something nefarious. Because lemmy is super technical, and a lot of really techy people use it. And they know how to make Bots and all kinds of stuff. So I didn't know what the hell was going on.
Lastly, if you want my advice. I remember when people would move their Lemmy communities all they would do is just make a post about it and then pin it to the community notifying users that they're moving to another instance. And that in in and of itself was helpful enough. Honestly I feel like that's all that's really necessary.
Anyway, you're fine I'm not mad at you I hope you have a good evening and try not to think about this so much
