I didn't think of that.

I remember during the initital wave of twitter refugees, a zdnet article covered bluesky and threads with glowing reviews, and then completely missed the point on mastodon, signed up for two servers, got no application back (waited 2 days) and has no idea what federation is.

Thats interesting.
Active prioritises posts with a high amount of activity, and keeps them close to the top for a while. This makes lemmy look more active.

https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/03-votes-and-ranking.html This explains how the algos work.

Wait, people drink holy water? its a bit of a joke where I live about people accidentally drinking it.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 3 points 20 hours ago

I haven't been paying attention to the conversation, but they're wrong.

Someone spammed an image of a mutilated, topless woman who resembles nicole. It has the normal "fediverse chick" text on it.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

nigel farage unfortunately exists.

You use hyphens -- they are different.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can imagine, but do you have a video?

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're 36 years too late.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago (5 children)

What does the original look like?

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 15 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I would make a nicole joke, but because of recent events...

Just got the email there (to see how bad it will be.) The full text is:

Hey.

You're getting this email because you were first in line.

Before the homepage. Before the platform. Before most people knew something was even happening.

So... welcome. You're officially invited to become a part of Groundbreakers, a small group of early supporters helping shape what Digg becomes next.

If you're just tuning in, here's the short version: Digg is coming back. Not as a throwback. Not as a museum. But as a reboot of the original social news site—rebuilt for how the internet actually works now.

And we want to build it the right way: with real people involved from the start.

We're gathering on Circle, a private online space where we'll share early ideas, rough screenshots, updates from the team, and weird internet energy in all forms.

👉 Join the Groundbreakers Community

What to expect:

– Early access to updates, mockups, and experiments – A front-row seat to how Digg is being rebuilt – A chance to give feedback, share ideas, or just watch it unfold – A community of smart internet people who showed up early—just like you

Also: you probably noticed there's a $5 charge to join. That's not about access. It's a simple way to keep things human—a small hurdle that helps make sure the people coming in are, well, actual people. No subscriptions. No gimmicks. Just a quick check at the door.

And since we're asking for it, we figured we'd put it to good use. > Proceeds will go to a nonprofit we'll choose together inside the community.

Thanks for being early. And for helping us build something new on top of something iconic.

See you inside, —The Digg Team

Some notes:

  • There is a high amount of em dashes, and it reads as ai.
  • The link isn't personalised, so giving them your email is pretty useless.

Well, looks like its going to still be shit.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this; I thought it could be relevant.

Lemmy's default sort is "Active", which means that the most active threads will stay at the top of the frontpage, which can make the same few threads stay for ages. It does give the impression that lemmy is more active though.

  • chinese.lol

Here is an example of the coordinated downvoting https://hackertalks.com/post/8692093

Of course its a controversial user who got someone angry enough to automated downvoting @DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today

But you can see every post they make gets 53ish downvotes from these two instances, plus some organic ones after a few hours.

A individual user airing their personal biases and manipulating lemmy isn't good for the community, regardless of how you feel about their target. This is a really bad thing (tm)

With google maps and the link.

Every time I go to the piefed frontpage I'm blown away by how much more polished it is. It has all the bells and whistles that lemmy is sometimes missing.

Whats the catch? Why aren't we recommending everyone goes to piefed instead of lemmy?

App support is one thing I can think of.

A lot of reddit subs had edits of the snoo (reddit alien) as the icon. I could try and make one for anyone who wants one.

Be warned though, I am terrible at editing images.
