With all due respect, that strategy got us fascism.

That argument is obviously false. We, people to the left of Republican voters, have been losing elections and Democrats since Clinton have been moving right as a result.

Apparently not, because socialsts/progressives/leftists are lazy, good-for-nothings who are simultaneously powerful enough to swing elections, but too inconsequential to talk about their issues or court their votes.

Of course we need more than just leftists to vote. We need to demonstrate a leftist voter block was part of what got Democratic candidates into office. So the Democrats feel they have voters to cover the ones on the right they think they could lose by shifting left.

In other words, maybe these vaunted “centrists”/liberals should’ve stepped up to stop fascism.

Yes. There can be more than one lesson to learn from an election. Democrats fucking up more than us doesn't mean we don't have a lesson to learn too. Obviously Democrats have to do better. But if they win without leftists when they do run a better candidate, they aren't going to shift left. They'll think they've hit the sweet spot and stay put on the political spectrum.

With Gavin Newsom, a Charlie Kirk podcast guest, the choice in 2028 might be two fascists.

We lost to Nixon and it got worse. We lost to Regan and it got worse. We lost to two different Bushes and it got worse. Now we've lost to Trump twice and it got worse.

The throughline is that we keep losing to the greater evil and suffering the consequences of things getting worse as a result. That includes worse choices next time as the Democrats move to the right to chase the people who vote for the greater evil. As opposed to going for people who don't vote or throw away their vote to a third party.

The Democratic Party is going to be rightwing until people learn we have to vote in addition to everything else to get Democrats to move to the left. They will only think about moving left if they win elections. And they only move left when they think they have enough voters to win when they do move.

If we, leftists, want better choices in 50 years we have got to vote in records numbers, so if Democrats get their act together and get someone half-way decent they win. And when they do, they see a leftist voter block got them there.

There's no way to win political power in the United States without the Democratic Party or the Republican Party.

Socialists and progressives will always have an easier time infiltrating the neoliberal Democratic Party over the fascist Republican Party.

The longer the fascists are in power the harder it will be remove them from power because they will change the rules to maintain power.

The optimal strategy remains to vote for neoliberals when the alternative is fascists because that is how to create time for socialists and progressives to primary neoliberals in the Democratic Party and win general elections.

This meme is a continuation of the accelerationism we saw during the 2024 election. It supports the fascist cause by attempting to sabotage leftist's best strategy and thus is pro-fascist. The user is prone to self-sabotage as they publicly admitted to not voting for Harris in 2024.

If a fascist drinks at your bar and you don't throw them out it's a fascist bar. If a fascist meme ends up in your community and you don't throw it your a fascist community.

I am reporting this meme. And you all should too. I'm sick of self-described leftists backstabing me and every other minority group they pretend to care about because they're mad about the 2016 election. I'm a trans, atheist, Jew. I'm close enough to the death camps for my liking thanks. You don't have to like the Democrats, I don't, but we do need to vote for them.

I refuse to go quietly. I refuse to tolerate memes that shrug at my right to exist and throw fuel to the fire in the hopes that the fascists kill everyone faster. That's not a real political position. It's black pilled bullshit and it can fuck off.

Hope that helps people stop tolerating this bullshit going forward.

The Acceleration is already locked in, and denying it is Liberal Fantasy.

There would be little point of having any interest in politics if this was true. As long as there are still people there is the ability to make things better. All fascism needs to triumph is for everyone else to do nothing.

Incorrectly assuming there is nothing we can do lets the fascists win. There is no limit to how bad things get. The more elections people refuse to vote for neoliberals the worse things will get. And the longer the fascists are in power the harder it will be defeat them in elections.

Its a great way to get written of as a useless Liberal that can only be trusted to fill out a rigged ballot.

We should fill out ballots if we get them. The wider the margin of victory the harder it will be for the fascists to rig elections. And we should expect there will be ballots, because to do otherwise is to comply in advance.

But wallowing in “Kamala should be President” is how you get treated like a dirty lib.

Everyone should have voted for Harris in the last election. Arguments against this are accelerationist and must be refuted at every opportunity.

Come join us in reality.

We should vote for neoliberals when the choice is between neoliberals and fascists. Fascism harms us all and so we shouldn't be complicit in our destruction by allowing fascists to win.

The “Glorious Past” was fucking terrible too.

Giving up cultural capital to the fascists is a needless ceding of ground to fascists. We should celebrate what American has gotten right while still criticizing what American has gotten wrong.

The point of criticism is to improve a thing you love. Mamdani loves New York City. It's why he wants to improve it with socialist policies. He believes in the melting pot he knows NYC can be. And the people voting for him may or may not get his socialism but they definitely understand his passion for their shared home. People who don't love their country or least the good their country is capable of have nothing to contribute to a political movement whose goal is to improve their country.

If all you're arguing for is to burn everything to the ground then you're getting what you wanted. You're not going to want Mamdani or some other socialist to be president. They're going to put a stop to the acceleration and build America up. But the only way socialists candidates can even win an election is for people to fill out ballots.

The acceleration stops when we stop letting things get worse. Things only get better when we learn from our mistakes and use that knowledge to make things better. We have to educate people. Part of that means accepting not voting for Harris was a mistake in 2024. Which if you don't have a problem with then there's not much to discuss there. It was other people in the comment section who were still needing that pointed out.

We're more than likely going to end up in a similar scenario, with an incrementally better neoliberal, in 2028 if we even get an election. And that's if Gavin Newsom doesn't end up being the candidate. I'm starting to think he's going to go full "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and just run on being more fascist than the Rebuplicans. Regardless, we need socialists and progressives to co-opt the Democrat party from the current establishment, neoliberal Democrats and then win every election we can. That becomes harder to do the longer we're stuck in a christo-fascist dictatorship. Not to mention the damage to the planet and vulnerable communities all over the world in the meantime.

We need to support candidates like Mamdani. And not allow fascists to win when the choice is between them and a neoliberal. That's how we reduce the most harm in the short run and set the stage to have a socialist political revolution in the long run.

This has gotten me thinking how problematic a Newsom v DeSantis race could be in 2028. =(

I'm arguing that accelerationism is a self-destructive ideology. Democrats are going to keep chasing the neocon conservatives who vote over the leftists who don't vote. The way we win is getting more candidates like Mamdani in positions of power, including the presidency. But we're still going to need to neoliberal candidates in order to have majorities in Congress and state legislatures. There aren't going to be enough socialist candidates in the short term. Hopefully there will be quite a few progressives though.

Did you see the way Walz alienated the indigenous voters? I’m deeply curious about what response you get from Palestinian-Americans grieving their families. To absolve Democrats of their inability to message coherently when we need it most? Is simply unacceptable.

Also, I'm not Tim Walz. But he was liked by indigenous voters.

Walz also had better takes on Gaza than Biden.

I don't control the Democratic party.

Your argument is inherently accelerationist. Everyone needs to know how self-destructive it is.

The Culture

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Culture

I hadn't heard of this. It seems cool. =D

What is it now?

Read what I wrote. The US used to stand for freedom and justice for all and the US no longer does.

Apart from that, you are projecting a bit much here.

Your argument is beat for beat the same argument so it's not projection.

Don’t be like them and run around with that patriotism bullshit.

Your argument agrees with the fascists in that "America was never a democracy". The fascists just take it further and say we were always a white christian nation. Stop running around with the accelerationist bullshit.

Don’t pretend that your country was so great and free and fair and all. It never was.

It got better, because the people stood up took their rights against push back, against violence and murder.

So your argument concedes it is the same accelerationist argument. Your argument even clarifies it's wrong at the same time. Cool.

but stop twisting that into what you want to make other people believe is some core value of your country and the only real patriotic thing or some shit.

I am going to keep refuting accelerationist arguments. You can try to bullshit in your argument all you want.

Fascism will fail. Accelerationism will fail. People are going to keep telling the truth.
