Yeah, that's true, I think you should be able to turn on encryption but my friends overvoted me on that one. I've heard that the encryption is wonky as well, though.
I'm on an FP5 atm, was on stock Google for about half a year (without Google account) before switiching to CalyxOS, I have no complaints except maybe the camera which is terrible, caved in and installed Gcam, probably this one:

Be aware that I've never used an Iphone and I'm quite deep into the anti-evilcorp stuff, have been runnig customs roms for years and years, so I probably just don't know many of the cool features you can in exchange for giving up your privacy, so I don't miss them.

Noticed a small thing: in the How section the leading / line spacing is very big in the first paragraph, the second paragraph less so but still more than in the other texts.

How much is Proton Drive? You can get a TB storage with Netcloud from Hetzner for 5€ / month, which is quite the deal esp of you have a few friends to share the costs.
Not sure what the state of backup / migration is on Lemmy (my guess is unfortunately "not great") but if a server admin bans a community they can just open a new one on another server (or host their own).
Never heard of any of these except for Klarna and that was only because of shady business practices and privacy concerns ...
