I think I pay ~$12-$13USD for 3TB of storage with BB2. It's been great. Nightly incremental backups with TrueNAS. Haven't had the need yet to pull down the data (which I should, you should test your backups with a restore on occasion), but I have peace of mind knowing it's there and encrypted.

I, too, run an always on VPN from my mobile devices. I can still access my home network with pihole and DNS entries to my services. It's not that difficult. I agree though, mTLS is a good option.
