Excellent. Glad to see the most populous country on the planet making major moves towards renewables.

tossed the motor in the passenger seat and drove 2k miles. Put the new motor in and sorted out all the kinks on the 2k mile drive back home.

What did the first leg of the journey accomplish that installing the new motor at the outset and driving 1k miles each way would not?

You missed a trick by not arming me with a musket...

No, consolidating topics which are fragmented across multiple communities into one community.

Also when I am feeling particularly lazy, I just scramble eggs and microwave it.

What sort of vessel/container do you use for this? Is a tight-fitting lid required?

Yeah, taking the log of the "total assets / median assets" quotient is really elegant!

Yeah, that's what I currently do, but I'd prefer an option to disable the automatic "mark as read", rather than having to remember to manually unmark it every time I view a comment I might want to come back to.

The European Space Agency (ESA) released the first batch of images and data for its Euclid space telescope. The images focus on Euclid’s three deep field areas, patches of sky the telescope will observe dozens of times to peer deep into the cosmos. Though the new release only contains Euclid’s first look into these areas, it has already provided astronomers with a treasure trove of data on galaxies and other cosmic phenomena.

UBI? I'd vote for you.

Is there a downside for "all software open source"?

Taking Lemmy as an example, if someone writes software for bot detection, CSAM detection, or other similar tools, there could be a downside to making those open source. It could be equivalent to handing malicious actors a guide to circumventing those tools.

Interesting idea.

What is the purpose of floor() and ceiling()? Why not have it be a continuous function?

Yes I did technically "read" the comment when I viewed it, but I prefer to be in control of which comments I mark as read individually.

On the desktop web interface, only replying to the comment or clicking the checkmark marks the comment as read.

Is there any way for Summit to match the behavior of the desktop version?

What are your secrets?

The pinned thread on r/RedditAlternatives is over a year old: https://old.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/1anols3/social_websites_with_nested_comments_v7/

A few issues I've identified:

  • Only the largest Lemmy instance (LemmyWorld) is listed.
  • Some sites like kbin, tipestry, and pcmemes have shut down since the thread was posted.
  • I'm not convinced that sorting by 'Similarweb Rank' is that useful. I think a metric like 'Monthly Active Users' would be more meaningful.

Can we compile better, more up-to-date info?

Does anyone know if sites like Discuit, Disqus, Raddle, Saidit, Tildes, etc. publish MAU statistics?

The UK Engagement with Space Committee was established by the House of Lords in January 2024. As a special inquiry committee, its primary aim is to examine how the UK can effectively engage with the rapidly evolving global space industry and ensure that national policies, regulations and investments serve the country’s long-term interests.

During its 24 March session, the committee heard from six expert witnesses across two panels. The second panel focused on the United Kingdom’s need to develop its own launch capacity and featured testimony from Scott Hammond, Deputy CEO of SaxaVord Spaceport; Alan Thompson, Head of Government Affairs at Skyrora; and Adam Baker, Co-founder of UK Launch Services.

In response to a question asking what the case was for the UK possessing a sovereign launch capability, Adam Baker explained that the country was the “only well-developed space economy in the world who not only doesn’t have it, but we did have it, and we gave it away.” This is a reference to the UK’s decision to cancel its Black Arrow launch programme in the early 1970s, despite having successfully placed a satellite into orbit.

Already signed up. Got the login verification email, followed through and did the security thing, “type the word from our sidebar below” passed all that and can not login.

I appreciate that but don’t bother. I tried with the instance listed in this post and still got the same login issues even after receiving the email to login and passing the security check etc. I deleted the app. I’ve tried enough times and never had any success so I won’t be trying again.

I think they signed up at 50501.chat.

It's a shame that Lemmy is missing out on new users just due to signup issues.
