It was demonstrably never true to begin with. We're in a post factual meme driven news cycle.

"In war, truth is the first casualty"

This .ml account is one day old and it's trying to tell us all that Russia is defending itself by invading another country because America bad. All this in a post about how a data center that was destroyed a few days ago lowered Russian bot traffic. It really doesn't get more transparent than this. One day old .ml account.

I started on .world, but after hearing people like you complain about .ml, and after repeated 503 errors, I made the switch.

I've seen what makes you cheer.

In the past, when I saw the same posts on both Reddit and Lemmy, the Lemmy comments always showed more critical thinking and skepticism where it was appropriate. Nothing was taken at face value; memes were not considered a source of information, and there were always many comments looking for verifiable sources. This was in stark contrast to Reddit.

But, apparently, something changed. When the memes about the bombings started coming in, every comment was based on the premise that the meme was true. "2/3s??? Wow, I was expecting a big number but not a sizeable majority" "reddit too, all the traffic has been quiet."

Fortunately, as time went on, the more critical comments got voted to the top, and this spurred more skepticism. But the damage had already been done. The first wave of comments is always more representative of peoples' uninfluenced reactions; seeing them made me lose my faith in Lemmy.

Spot on. It feels like people are more tribal on Lemmy. Just look at the downvotes on the comment you replied. Straight facts but downvoted cuz .ml

Disappointing to say the least. But maybe this is natural due to the way instances work. Kind of separates us into teams by default.

I don't care what instance you're from. Use your brain. Don't believe anything without actual evidence. This is war. Always be skeptical.

This may be a controversial opinion for those only sacrificing healthcare and education, but I believe war may in fact cause harm.

John Bolton wanted to destroy Russia long before that.

The Rand Corporation wrote a whitepaper that basically translates to "how to fuck up Russia and take all their shit".

Hey quick question, let's assume everything you think about Russia is true. Why is putin playing along? Why is he emptying soviet vehicle stockpiles and losing troops on droves to a place he said in 2014 he could take in 2 weeks? If the US or NATO actually wanted to invade Russia, now is better than yesterday, and tomorrow will be even better. So why continue a war that only weakens Russia?

I guess the ultimate question is what is putin trying to accomplish with the invasion?

Yeah maybe Russia should stop their invasion of Ukraine so the war can end.

Similarly: the only reason there's a war in Iran is because the United States sent its Navy there.

Imperialist invaders fucking off and going home challenge (impossible)

Not sure what you thought would happen when we bankrolled a coup on their border.

This is all you need to know about the West's adversarial nature toward Russia.

Russia is fighting a defensive war against an existential threat.

You're rooting for a sports team.

That data center story was found to be false as soon as it came out, but you're still riding high on it I see.

I don't have any data on ad hominems, only natural resources and other real things.

America bad? Well, we're currently arming over 80% of all dictatorships globally, sooo.... You tell me. Russia isn't doing that. China isn't doing that.
