It’s 9:15 in the morning. The wind is roaring at 110 miles per hour (177 kph); the sound is deafening. Dust swirls through the air. We are watching a single-wide manufactured home rock back and forth, as it is pounded by turbulent wind.

Then, in an instant, the screws shear off and the entire unit tumbles backward, rolling two full revolutions before it stops.

In any other situation, this would be terrifying. But here, we are conducting a first-of-its-kind experiment at Florida International University’s Wall of Wind, a test facility that can reproduce wind speeds the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane.

I appreciate that's literally the first site that comes up when you DDG "why are us houses made of wood" but it's credibility is... lacking (and I'll confess, I'm quite content having an answer that differs from the one given on an AI generated slop site.)

You really don’t take a disagreement well. Don’t worry, it won’t happen from me again because I block anybody so fragile they respond like you did. But first:

~1/7 the population

Is that not smaller than 6/7?

~1/5 the landmass

Is that not smaller than 4/5?

I disagree on the subjective meaning of a very small portion but I guess we’ll just have to disagree.

Lmao you started it - you want to dismiss an argument go ahead, but maybe don't use slop to do it in the future. Idk if this is helpful advice tho; if this is what you consider "fragile" you're going to have a terrible time on lemmy.

And fwiw you misunderstood; while 1/7 is not very small, the population within the relevant area of the us (not just the 5 pacific states) is a very small amount under 1/2.
