I wonder if any of Trump's supporters remember that his original 2016 campaign leant heavily on the idea that he was great at hiring people, and would replace the swamp with a team of the country's best and most highly qualified people?

Supporting Trump was always about making MAGA feel good about themselves, feels not reals. Trump's actual policy outcomes almost never mattered.

Perhaps the main policy point of Trump was anti foreign adventure, alongside being anti-immigration and anti-inflation. And now Trump has started an optional war in Iran which is arguably even stupider than Bush II's Iraq War. Which has caused inflation to sky-rocket. And the national debt is spiraling out of control. And yet, 76% of Republicans still approve of Trump. I don't think most people realize how literally insane the loyalty of the Republican voter base is.

Which is typical for fascism. It's only about appealing to the emotions of the masses to gain popularity and thus power.

The % is a little misleading though. The total # of people who self- identify as Republican has also been shrinking (true with people who self-identify as democratic too). More and more people self-identify as independent. Most of the data I have looked at stop at 2023-2025 though, so who knows what it'd look like today after the fiasco this administration has been in 2026.

Republicans are still projected to get something like 40-50% of the votes next election. Given how much the Republican party is the party of Trump, pretty much every vote for a Republican is a vote for Trump. All the Republicans who opposed Trump have already been primaried out at this point.

What actual policies does the Republican party even stand for, at this point? "No new wars"? Economic responsibility? Preserving freedom and democracy? Small government? Real Christian values like helping the poor? Preserving the status quo? Free market capitalism? Free speech? No, they stand for Trump and racism, and nothing else.

So while you can (rightfully) quibble about the specific % I mentioned being misleading, the underlying Trump support is huge.
