Strangely, the nurse told me about psyllium husks and didn't mention any of that other stuff.

I the nurse's defense they are not a nutritionist. Throwing additional fiber into your diet is quicker and easier than reevaluating your entire diet.

That said, if you're having issues both may be wise. And you want both soluble and insoluble fiber, so you'll want to eat a variety of plants.
