Who is talking about remorse? I just don't want people to be tortured in the name of justice. That isn't justice, that is revenge. If you're all about revenge then by all means, that us your opinion, but at least be honest about it

I don't want revenge. These prisoners one day will get out and they will once again be pur neighbors. I want a person who has grown, who has improved, who has their anti social behaviors controlled and who won't need to display criminal behavior again. I dont want a person neck deep in PTSD of all the terrors they lived in a US prison living next to me, ready to snap at an instant.

That is the pragmatic part. There is also the ethical part where these people, these humna beings, are still, you know, humans and they deserve some basic level of dignity and respect.

Then there is also the part where in the USA nobody gives a shit about why people commit crimes to begin with, even though that is the core question to answer. Fix those issues, and you lower crime. This, however, requires ending poverty, endinc racism, ending the endless focus on "I needs all the moneys!!!" and having universal (mental) healthcare and of course in case of the USA, ending the free flow of guns. Fix those issues and watch your crime rates crash.

But alas, its much easier to just act as if these people aren't people but vermin you can step on. This way, the for profit prisons can continue to bathe in golden bathtubs while the gun industry can post record profits in times of school shootings and the medical industry too can all drive multiple luxury cars. That solution is much better, isn't it.
