We literally do. And have had for decades.

High speed fiber that Bell, Telus, Rogers, and several other operators own. On Canadian soil, owned by Canadian companies (and with international connections across the ocean as well as going south)

    Then you ought to have let your sales departments know. I know a few businesses that had contracted with some of the big telcos for managed services, who specifically asked for data to use Canadian-exclusive routes / not to dip into the USA shortly after the Patriot act went in, and the standard response was that there were some points where there was only 1 route -- so there was a high likelihood that if we "required" that east/west to be fully Canadian, it'd have disruptions due to there being single points of failure.

    Also as an edit -- if it's the case that we already have a sovereign Canadian backbone, why would Carney and the big telcos announce that they were going to invest heavily in building a sovereign Canadian backbone?

    Man, your resume must be exhausting. Two weeks ago you were an expert on TV production finance and OSFI regulations. Today you're suddenly an auditor of national fiber telecom infrastructure.

    You spent two whole paragraphs confidently claiming Canada has no east-west data routes, only to get humiliated by someone who literally maintained them for a living. And right on cue, you scramble with "well, the sales department told a bank I totally audited..."

    It's the exact same move every time. You cook up bizarre doom porn—ATMs shutting down, cow-ebola bio-warfare, immigrants lining up to welcome an invasion—and the second someone with actual real-world knowledge checks you on the facts, you start backpedaling and claiming you have secret insider experience. Nobody is buying it.

    Edit: Oh, and I still can't believe you compared indigenous TV programming to porn. Holy fuck....
