It ended up as a little too much of a rant, but im just having fun here

spoilerIm sorry, but that's just not the reason you would give up on a lamp, unless you are using some weird new tech bullshit. A lamp is two wires (sometimes three), a special lightbulb socket, a switch (technically in my own experience optional, but I was being a bit stupid, fixed it tho) and thats it. Its more complicated for LEDs, but we got led lightbulbs already, everything that could break is within that. Ive went through a couple of lamps and the reason Ive thrown them out was in most cases the plastic casing breaking. Sometimes the electric isolation gets worn down exposing a live wire - you throw that out because that's a health and fire hazard. Rarely there is a problem with the connectors, but in the one and only case Ive seen that makes the light dim, unstable, and emits a constant buzz. Obviously bad, technically functional. Overall a lamp is pretty much the very simplest house appliance youve got, and because of that the points of failure are limited
