is this pulling from RSS feeds? maybe it's a good place to crosspost from, but for discussions it doesn't seem as good as the existing Linux communities

also where did you get the picture from?

I post it all without using a bot (but I do a lot of perusing on various sites, using RSS).

I started it because I was basically cross posting between a few communities, and figured it would save me time to just have 1, rather than posting the same stuff to debian, ubuntu, etc.

I knew I was starting from a base of 0 people, and I had considered renaming one of my existing communities as an alternative

When I looked at c/linux on linux.world, I figured a lot of it recently was also just me, and had a bad experience with someone on there recently who seemed to just be going post to post, calling projects Slop, so figured I wanted a bit more power to ban trolls, and have more power to avoid toxic behaviour (like attacking devs and projects) in the community.

I would like to build up the discussion (only started this one yesterday).

The picture is Gnome 1.0, and just grabbed it online. But, now that I think about it, maybe it does leave a bad impression, and I should put Gnome 51 instead or something better.

Fair enough, sounds good. I do think that's a lot of posts for a short amount of time, you're diluting your commentators.

Did you try reporting the comments or asking to be moderator on any of the existing communities?

Ah I had never seen it before lol, it looks a lot like Windows 95 to me. I thought it was a Win95 theme for Linux and I was gonna ask where you got it from. I made my own Win 95/98/ME themes so I was curious.

Yeah.. Need to get people to join a bit first imho. Also, part of the issue with a lot of the communities is that they're mostly dead I find. The discussions aren't really driving them to consistency. Like even c/linux on lemmyworld has 20k subscribers, but only seems to get maybe 2 posts a day (including news).

And there is so much happening in the linux world consistently.

But yeah, original gnome was a bit clunky even compared to Windows 95. But, even xfree86 (which predates Xorg) required manual setup of hardware, didn't have compositing, etc.

Compositing in Xorg and the Xorg fork changed EVERYTHING, as it even added auto detection of hardware.

IMO comments are more important than posts, so fewer posts are better because it means the commentors get funneled in together better, and it doesn't hog my subscribed feed as much
