In the continuing race to see who can throw transgender people under the bus most quickly, South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Annie Andrews has released a new direct-to-camera campaign ad in which she states that she does not support trans athletes playing in sports that affirm their gender identity.

The alternative is sadly a Republican, which is even worse.

These people need to make their hate known before the midterms so they can be kicked out, now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate before they can try anything.

It's absolutely bizarre how easily Trump can just lead these assholes around by the nose.

It started when he was more popular than them because nobody likes moderate Republicans and the party was kind of in the dumpster. It's persistent because he gained a strangle holder and can threaten the primary anyone. What the Republican Party even looks like after Trump dies of old age I have no clue. It's been the Trump party for years they have to reinvent themselves

Some days I think. Do I just need to run for a political seat. I mean. For fucks sake.

Can we just get someone normal with baseline ethics ?

I don't want to go into politics.

It looks boring as hell and you have to listen to complaints all day and threats from corporate brats calling your office.

    And the smear campaigns.

But I mean. Someone needs to do the job right.

Maybe someone who doesn't want to do it is the right person.

    Idk.

Sometimes I just think about that.

I don't have any past b.s to be brought up. All my old nudie pics are from peak years. So even if someone shared those it would probably help me get elected not hurt me.

Idk. Sometimes I think maybe I should just try. My whole angle would be.

"I don't want this job. But y'all keep fuckin it up. So here we are."

    Or

"Move aside. I'll fix it myself, fuckwits".

I have a cynical sense of humor. Some people might relate but Id probably piss a lot of people off.

I've been trying to tell all my friends how they need to run for local offices. Hell, half of those small positions aren't even opposed.

    easy wins. Cushy state job.

Sit there and make it hard for people to get away with b.s. slow down the fascist. And help the progressives.

You can do that at any level of government if you play your cards right.

Harm reduction is when a liberal kills you politely.

now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate

The difference I've seen between cis-activists and trans-activists is that Trans people are done waiting.

I see more direct action in an LGBTQ aligned street corner than a No Kings parade.

Trans people will keep being trans. They'll keep helping each other transition. Fuck the law. Fuck the cops. And fuck any liberal fascist politician who tries to stop them.

People like you live in a fairy tale, and they always will. That a mythical third party will come along and win with no work towards it, perfectly aligned to court a majority of voters. "No, the Democratic party cannot be reformed. Do not vote in the primary or participate in caucuses. Only a third party I won't name nor will I give any instructions on finding will solve our problems."

It's, frankly, horseshit. You are the same as a fucking doomsayer saying the end is nigh, using numberology to prove it'll happen next Thursday.

You people want to have a third party in a voting system strictly opposed to third parties. How the fuck do you plan to get those third parties elected with 5% of the vote?

Don't get me wrong. It's great for feeling morally superior! If you never have to make a hard choice in your life, you can pretend any problem isn't your fucking responsibility, not your fucking fault.

Anyway, this guy is either an accelerationist or an operative designed to get you to be apathetic towards voting. Just fucking vote, and do basic fucking math to realize there is no national third party that will save you. If you hate the Democratic party, join your local party and berate the shit out of them to change. That'll do more than this shit plan of voting third party ever will.

No. Her winning is worse than the Republican winning, at least for trans people. This is an infection in the Democratic Party, and every TERF Democrat that wins spreads the infection even more.

Just imagine telling a black person they had to vote for someone that supports segregated drinking fountains, all in the name of "the greater good.'

One side is literally commiting genocide against us.

The other side is slowly leaning towards it.

Yes it’s bad to let that leaning towards look like a winning strategy to be replicated, but that is something we can potentially fight at the next midterms. We cannot fight it however if we are all gone.

There are two jobs voters have in this election:

    1. Get the existing fascists out of power.

    2. Prevent the Democrats from also falling to fascism.

You cannot focus on just one. If you're focusing on just one, you are failing as a voter.

It isn't and they already explained exactly why. Her winning further erodes the only semblance of trans support in our government.

How have Democratic voters still not learned that constantly "lesser of two evil"-ing the party to the right is a long term self-destruction?

    Voting Democrat: long term self-destruction.

Voting Republican: immediate self-destruction. This is not better. This is worse.

You don't have to say that a Democrat winning is "worse" than a Republican winning in order to criticize the Democrats.

Once again, read the comment you originally responded to. This specific Democrat is running on a platform that has no place in the Democratic Party. If we allow it, we are worse in the long run than a Republican winning this seat.

You should read Letter From a Birmingham Jail and try to understand which part is about you.

Also you realize those aren't the only two choices right?

They are the only two choices right now. No one else is on the ballot, the Senator will be Andrews or Lindsay Graham's sister.

The time to make other choices was the primary. Andrews' two opponents each raised barely 1/100th of the campaign support, and Andrews won that primary 62:30:8. Continuously re-running primaries and making best the enemy of better is how we keep getting worst.

In most cases I agree and that's how I vote. But it is possible for a candidate to go so far to the right on an issue that support of them is poison to the Democratic Party. The more we condone this, the further the controlled opposition slides to the right.

No, it isn't. It is possible to signal an active voter is available for a better candidate. Equating not voting Dem = voting Republican is just a tired manipulation tactic (and mathematical absurdity) used by people who can't defend the Democrats any way other than "but Replications."

What??? I never framed anything that way. I also didn't bring it up, you did. I've only been responding to your points.

My stance is that the Republican winning is worse than the Democrat winning. Not that the Democrat is the best, not that voting for anyone else is the same as voting Republican, none of these stances you have placed in my mouth.

This was you. You brought up voting Republican. No one here was at all suggesting voting Republican. And you framed it as what someone is doing if they are not voting Democrat. I don't understand lying about this when it's right there?

    Voting Democrat: long term self-destruction.

Voting Republican: immediate self-destruction. This is not better. This is worse.

My guy and/or gal, this entire conversation is about framing the Democrat vs the Republican! It began with me saying this:

Her winning is worse than the Republican winning

    Absolutely unhinged take.

So, the original commenter compared the Dem to the Republican, said the Dem is worse, and I called out that specific stance. That is why me later pointing out the two is on topic, and you bringing up other candidates is irrelevant.

But they didn't say to vote for the Republican. You did. I don't even think it's a subtle distinction but even if it is, it's a crucial distinction that cannot be as hard to understand as you're acting like it is.

You chose that framing, stop pretending you didn't.

I certainly didn't say to vote Republican, but you're right in that I should have said "Democrat wins =" and "Republican wins =". I think I used the word vote because your comment said Democrat voters, and I was replying to that.

I did not, at any point, tell anyone how to vote or who to vote for. Nor meant to imply that I was.

To clearly reiterate: my only stance in this conversation is that the Republican is worse than the Democrat winning for Trans rights, and pretty much everything else too.

I hope that confusion has been cleared up and maybe we can find common ground in that.

You're right, I didn't finish that sentence. I should have said "They didn't say to vote Republican. You said that that's what we were saying."

And now to get back to the argument: We both strongly disagree with you that the Republican winning is worse for Trans rights than this specific Democrat. That's the entire point. This specific Democrat winning erodes the only source of trans rights in our government.

It is better for the known anti-trans Republicans to continue to be anti-trans than it is for the supposedly pro-trans Democrats to become less pro-trans. One continues the same level of anti-trans government action, the other actively increases it by normalizing the reduction of pro-trans support.

I think the disagreement is in the assumption that Republicans will continue to be anti-trans in same way or that it will be some status quo. That is why I made my comment that Dems = long destruction, whereas Republicans will be immediate destruction. And for what it's worth, I think more complete destruction. There may not be future elections with Republicans in charge.

Now that we've cleared up the confusion in our comments, I'm happy to agree to disagree.

    Have a good day.

Where has incremental change gotten us over the last all-of-time? It doesn't work. We are currently experiencing the destruction that the Democrats have wrought. That the Republicans are the ones in power enacting it was a foretold conclusion, what we have always needed was a party that would stand up to them and fight for the people. Instead we have one that enables the Republicans and placates people into thinking they've done something by voting for a "lesser evil."

If we had been unwilling to enable the Democratic slide to the right from the start or from any other point since we would be in a better position right now because the Republicans would have a harder time staying in power without stemming their sprint towards fascism. The best time to refuse the erosion of Democratic principles was the founding of the party, the second best time is today. That it may already be too late isn't a reason not to try.

I don't disagree with any of this, for the record, and why I didn't push back on democrats being the long death. But none of it changes my opinion that the Republican winning is worse. And I don't really see how any of what you've said refutes that.

The Democrats sliding to the right is bad. I agree.

A currently and actively further right party than that winning is worse than that. I'm honestly baffled that this is contentious. Especially after the last two years of total Republican control.

I don't disagree in general, though I'm certain I feel this way about more Democratic candidates than you would.

The difference for me is that this candidate in question running on these specific stances accelerates the rotting of the Democratic Party so much that she has become the worse candidate. Not because her opponent is better in any way shape or form, but because the effect of Annie winning does harm to party positioning much more quickly than your standard corpo-Democrat.

Good sweet baby Jesus on a Pogo stick sipping on a monster energy! When one candidate wants segregated fountains and the other wants a return to slavery, it isn't rocket science!

Are you black? Do you know how black people voted in these times? Or are you parading black people around as your morality puppet, imagining for yourself "how it probably went"?

Edit: so you are running around screeching at people not to speak for trans people if they're not trans. But black folks? What? They are beneath care and you can speak for them?

No, I'm unconvinced. I think I'd rather have Nazis be blatant Nazis than liberals pretend they aren't Nazis while enabling Nazis.

Edit: vote blue no matter who doesn't fucking work. It has never worked. Just look at literally any time a leftist is running, and how the establishment is works to counter them at every turn. Vote blue no matter who has only ever been applied in one direction. I don't think democratic voters should continue to reward failure and betrayal.
