Hardly comparable, given the Dutch have public infrastructure for long distance travel and amenities within walking and cycling distance.

Americans have to drive many multiples of the distance a Dutchman would need to, so the transport system relies on very cheap consumer fuel. Hopefully these prices will encourage the political capital required for some systemic change

    Oh, it is comparable, especially as average net income in Europe is lower than in the US.

    And this "within walking and cycling distance" is rather limited to city centers here, too. You can say this about american city centers, too.

    I'm living outside any city, and without a car, things would be hard to reach, too.
