I agree with you on the uncharitable read and the purity checks.

I don't agree about the exchange rate being a throwaway though. The reason is the number of idiot talking heads going on US news and telling Americans that the reason we are not visiting is the exchange rate. So many of them are desperately clinging to it as the reason, because it absolves them of the responsibility for voting for a pudding brained numptyfuck. It's why you see offers of discounts or Canadian money at par in a desperate attempt to draw Canadians.

They need to understand the consequences of their actions. I'll give you a specific example. Derek Stevens, CEO of several Las Vegas casinos was crowing about how he knows the exchange rate is why Canadians are not going there, so he offered CAD at par with USD. You don't have to look hard to find videos of Derek Stevens saying how great Trump is and chanting with Trump in one of his casinos, "USA USA". We can't let him let himself off the hook for his support of an imbecile with the economic understanding of a turnip.

    I don't consume their news media in a way where I was even aware of this narrative, so the reactions to my comment make more sense now thanks for the follow up.

    Edit: I did know about other tourist states and their media blaming tariffs instead of the 51st state threats, but not the exchange rate thing.

    I keep a close eye on their media cesspool for one simple reason, you have to know your fucking enemy. It’s sickening to watch, but you need to know what lies the bastards are telling themselves.

    That’s why I refuse to give them an inch of wiggle room.

    The whole "it’s just the weak Canadian dollar" narrative is pure, cowardly cope. It’s an easy out for corporate bootlickers like Derek Stevens and every other MAGA-cheering sycophant who wants to suck off Trump with "USA USA" chants, threaten Canada's sovereignty like we’re a target for annexation, and then act completely mystified when we stop handing them our cash.

    They want to pretend it’s about simple math because admitting reality means facing the fact that their vile, unhinged fascist circus made them a fucking pariah. Throwing out "CAD at par" coupons won't wash the stench off. They chose to vote for a braindead, corrupt bully, they cheered on the hostility against us, and now they want to cry about currency rates when the consequences kick in?

    Fuck that. They made their bed, and they can choke on their empty hotel rooms and hemorrhaging tourism numbers until the point finally punches through their thick skulls.
