This isn't new, is it? I remember treadmill printers being around for years already

No this isn't a new concept, the size and use of treadmill is not something I've seen before though.

To be honest, using an actual threadmill has no actual benefits other than generating an interesting headline

No i would think it's a significant disadvantage because they're (usually) using DC motors which have horribly inaccurate movement even with an encoder feedback.

I'm pretty sure they replaced all the running gear. I think the only thing they kept was the frame.

Creality has had a treadmill printer for a long time now. You are correct, this isnt anything new.

Just two of them would be an unsurmountable challenge.

We had a roomba mounted print head before.

That still leaves a lot of constraints on print geometry though because it will have limited reach over previously printed areas.

In case anyone here doesn’t follow it, Ivan’s YouTube channel is awesome, he has been working on a crazy marble clock: https://youtu.be/K3FMVmAte3g

ProperPrinting is also great, he has some cool videos on custom extruders and printers he designed and a wild extruding resin printer with UV lasers.
