Every single day in The Netherlands, Russia is in the news. Mass psychosis at this point. Even the AFD victory had more concerns for them being pro Russia instead of them being literal Nazi's.

Entering the world of blue collar workers is ripping me out of my left wing marxist bubble I had in Belgium. All of my coworkers claim to be right wing. At our friday afternoon drink today several of them voiced their support for AFD winning in Germany saying they are glad they won and that the people have had enough.

Now, at first you feel like you need to get out of the racist group. But marxist organising for years has prepared me for this. Deep down I believe people are left wing and that they are led on to become right wing by scapegoating of the oppressive bourgeoisie class. So, naturally, you try to engage in their visions and concerns. By asking them some simple questions I managed to get to the core of their problems which were almost all the same: cost of living increase, imaginary enemy created by the media, working too many hours for too long, etc.

I managed to make a start in poking holes in the fabricated narrative they have inside their head. Too easy for left wingers it is to stick their heads in the sand thinking they just know better than all those racist blue collar workers who mostly vote right wing in this country. Which is a shame, as our very beliefs were founded by these same workers many years ago. The left managed to abandon the working class here resulting in them turning to racist parties.

This will be a huge task to fullfill but I truly believe that by empathic towards their concerns and steering them in the right direction, I can get these people to change their views. Of course this is possible because of my privileged position of a white man. But someone has to turn the tide. A specter is haunting The Netherlands. It is me.

This is 100% the right approach. I always tell my German comrades the same thing. Chastising workers who vote AfD will not do anything to bring them over to our side. The AfD managed to do what the left could not, which is validate their real material concerns and offer a solution, however false. We have to engage with them on their level and offer them more than liberal moralism.

I usually tell that the AFD will continue the same policies (see Meloni and immigration increasing under her) and that “reducing bureaucracy” is code for gutting welfare systems.

Besides that foreign policy is the partly the cause for mass-immigration, supporting Israhell, bombing the near east, exporting weaponry, economical exploitating Africa and systematically enforcing underdevelopment.

Since my family also votes that way I try to emphasize that they broke immigration law to get my stepmother (who is an immigrant) stay in the country, so literally aided in illegal immigration they hate so much.

You are right comerade. Dismissing workers as "racist and uneducated" is for liberals. When "left" parties adhere to the smugness of liberals and the liberal policies which the workers know are failing them it is no wonder they will listen to the only (and often very well funded) people who claim to be able to help them. But ultimately the "right wing" parties offer no solutions, only more problems, and many I also believe would be open to another real alternative (which has the benefit of being right!). Even if not initially convinced a clear option, with open arms instead of smug elitism, lets them change their minds when they see what rightist policies do to their material conditions.

I was at a pride march early sunmer and there was a "Iranian government protest" that I randomly came across. What made it clear for me that these 'protests' are influence campaigns by some other state were the music was pure AI (it sounded exactly like "we are charlie kirk"), a pride flag, a Israeli flag, and a Ukrainian flag. Waving a USA flag would have looked like it was in its natural habitat.

Seeing all the people holding lion and sun flags listening to an american AI song wailing about some bullshit and I don't know how anyone can believe these protests aren't orchestrated by some foreign government. There's nothing genuine about them!

Do you allow yourself to feel defeated from time to time? Like, "damn, being a communist is hard" or "this world sucks."

I have these moments, but I don't know if they are healthy or not.

(Thanks for the answers. I really appreciate them)

To each their own but i think some struggle is definitely healthy, with some caveats of course, i.e. no one should work 3 turns to survive.

Almost every communist leader could've lived an easy life, as most were born in privilege and highly educated, yet they chose the hard route to make the world a better place.

I think it's pretty normal to not be in high spirits about it all the time. Where it would probably count as unhealthy is if it was an actual active belief like "there's no way communism can win because xyz" kind of thing, or if it was general dooming like "we're doomed because the species sucks" or something.

Personally, though I have low moments for sure, I don't tend to feel that communism itself is in trouble because I'm confident that due to the way contradictions work, support for it will keep popping up and due to dialectical and historical materialism being a science, people would rediscover it even if it was majorly repressed. But also, China is right there and is doing quite well. The imperial core itself, I don't know, it's hard to be optimistic about it sometimes. But I think things are going to reach a point where that doesn't matter very much for the rest of the world and they will be able look on the (one day former) empire regions with pity rather than fear.

Just like every revolution goes through periods of advancement and periods of retreat, so too do revolutionaries go though easy and difficult periods. It is important not to fear or deny that these periods are happening but to maintain our revolutionary discipline during them. To understand that defeat and temporary retreat are a fact of life but that this does not imply that we give up our goal or our hope.

"The proletarian revolutions maturing in all advanced countries of the world will be unable to solve their problems unless they combine the ability to fight heroically and to attack with the ability to retreat in good revolutionary order. The experience of the second period of our struggle, i.e., the experience of retreat, will in the future probably be just as useful to the workers of at least some countries, as the experience of the first period of our revolution, i.e., the experience of bold attack, will undoubtedly prove useful to the workers of all countries." – V.I. Lenin

The windows 10/11 comparison page is funny. They have a thing that compares features and one of the standout features they have for windows 11 compared to 10 is "Smart App Control provides a layer of security by only permitting apps with good reputations to be installed on your Windows 11 PC."

That is not a benefit unless I am, like... an elderly person whose mind is going and needs to be kept safe from myself. For most people, this is "you're too stupid to understand tech, we'll decide for you." It's infantilization at best, but more likely malicious matter of capitalist control. Fuck windows.

The football team I support played Shaktar Donetsk tonight. It was surprising to see that they filled the entire 1600 persons away section despite their fans being either at war or scattered across Europe.

It was less surprising to see Azov banners.

I dreamed someone was riding a log down a flooded river for fun with my kitten that was murdered, so that when the log rolled I lost her again. Very weird dream, but I had seen her pictures a day or so before and felt bittersweet, so I guess it makes sense.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but i honestly hate the term "treats" and "treatlerite."

To preface, im not a fan of social democrats, especially in the global north.

But it just denigrates the actual analysis of why people align themselves with social democrats and why they might be popular in favor of this moralist caricature of "mwahaha i will vote for new hitler if hes offering me PS5's and chocolate" when in reality it's often more complex and conversely actually possible to do something. As with my criticisms of third worldism in general, it's only difference from orthodox marxism-leninism is that it gives up in the imperial core because of mechanical materialism. "Treats" and "treatlerite" is just adding a moralist tinge to it

I suspect it's a bit of a memeification of a more poignant quote by Aimé Césaire, which you've probably seen. The one from https://en.prolewiki.org/wiki/Library:Discourse_on_Colonialism

Yes, it would be worthwhile to study clinically, in detail, the steps taken by Hitler and Hitlerism and to reveal to the very distinguished, very humanistic, very Christian bourgeois of the twentieth century that without his being aware of it, he has a Hitler inside him, that Hitler inhabits him, that Hitler is his demon, that if he rails against him, he is being inconsistent and that, in the end, what he cannot forgive Hitler for is not the crime in itself, the crime against man, it is not the humiliation of man as such, it is the crime against the white man, the humiliation of the white man, and the fact that he applied to Europe colonialist procedures which until then had been reserved exclusively for [non-white peoples].

Treatlerite, by comparison, seems to imply that people are okay with genocidal Hitler-like policies mainly because they get treats out of it. Which reduces complex dynamics of class and caste contradictions to basic hedonistic drives.

The irony here is that Césaire was encouraging, in the words above, "to study clinically, in detail, the steps taken by Hitler and Hitlerism and to reveal to the very distinguished, very humanistic, very Christian bourgeois of the twentieth century". In other words, to put great detail effort into understanding just what the hell is going on with white people precisely, especially the bourgeoisie of them, and how insidiously they hide behind faux pro-social narratives.

And reading Indi's more recent articles makes me think Iran worked out precisely what would make the white bourgeoisie finally hurt and is going through a gradual process of making it happen: https://indi.ca/the-after-math/

But, similar to Russia's gradual, plodding advances in Ukraine, they are not in a rush. They don't need to make it all happen tomorrow. They only need to make sure that the trajectory keeps going down for the white bourgeoisie, that it is, in a sense, "a controlled explosion" as much as possible.

I think a similar understanding of the imperial core working class is needed and analyses of them often seem inadequate, from what I've seen. A framing like "treatlerite" doesn't elucidate much. Sometimes the implication made is that the treats are treating the symptoms of the awful conditions, but if that's the case, then it's not the treats themselves that are sought after, it's other needs and the treats are a coping mechanism; and if that really is a big part of what's going on, that means the imperial core working class are a lot closer to revolt than they may seem at a glance. But I don't think this explains all that much because having a means to treat symptoms does not explain the active support that many still have for the system and how it works.

One thing that repeats in my mind, is that it's vital to look at the internal caste-like systems of imperial core regions. Such as in the US, which, roughly speaking, goes down something like: white man, white woman, black man, black woman, indigenous man, indigenous woman

Is the white working class just a mini version of the white bourgeoisie in terms of racism, colonial practice? Or is it more complicated than that? I'd think the contradictions would have to make it more complicated. That the white working class is intentionally meant to be racist enough for the white bourgeoisie to recruit from them as needed, but their racism (in today's world) is often more of a passion-based racism than a plotting, logistics-based one. This makes a kind of sense to me because if the working class is good at logistics, they are harder to control, whereas passion alone can be directed via media and the like.

But I am only trying to expand the conversation, not do a comprehensive analysis.

So I just finished playing Baldurs gate 1 and 2.

Honestly i think if I played these games when they came out I wouldn't shut up about them. Like theyd be my Harry potter basically. Cause they still hold up [well about 90% of it does] decades later. I think id put them up with Deus Ex in terms of quality back then, although I think Deus Ex holds up a little better now.

I really like that the devs managed to pull off high level combat too. Even modern dnd struggles to deal with parties of level 20 players, and BG2 increases the level cap to 40. While some [like the imprisoned one and Abazigal] were a bit disappointing [not too much, just a bit short] because they were single targets [basically, if you have one big enemy, have your mages cast anti-defense spells like breach, ruby ray, spell strike, etc.], then a lot of their defenses go down and can be hit with melee and killed quickly. [Although I will note i got access to Carsomyr because i played a paladin, which made a lot of fights a lot easier because it dispels on hit]. Sendai and the final boss are honestly two of my favorite bosses in the entire saga.

I do have my criticisms [romances are the first time bioware ever did romances so theyre...okay, and annoyingly buggy. Like I legitimately had to access the console and change variables in order for Jaheira's to progress. BG1 makes you so squishy that I cannot see myself playing on higher difficulties, unlike bg2. Also I know this was due to a change in editions but I really appreciate cantrips making mages useful without their spell slots, since in bg1 a level 1 mage was basically dead weight. Lastly, i do wish they had the time to make Throne of Bhaal its own seperate game. Its actually baffling they were forced to rush that out as a dlc.]

Im gonna be moving on to BG3 now and, while it does mean im definitely late to the party there, I think having that connection to the first two games is definitely worth it

In the communist stage, how would inherently high demand but finite things be distributed? For instance, concert tickets for a popular music artist? Sure maybe fans arent so culty under communism than capitalism, but there will still probably be a higher demand for seats than there is supply. Would it just be first come first serve?
