That was probably an additional 5 cents worth of popcorn that was being sold for $10 too.

Yeah but a quickly fireable offense. At least how it was 15-20 years ago they inventory the containers. So if you gave someone the wrong size your inventory would be off when you cashed out, you'd be gone by day 3. Now if someone ordered a medium and came back half way through the movie and you refilled it for them, no one probably would have ever cared. Same with drinks.

Aka in their eyes the empty tub holding the popcorn is worth $10, they couldn't care how much popcorn you gave them. (The managers got paid absolute shit as well, so they just want the numbers to be close enough that they also aren't in trouble)

The price of cinema popcorn is a strange thing.

It's corn. It's literally just corn. Unless the butter came from the teet of St Mary herself, it's just corn. $2 should cover it including the inconvenience of shipping it, pouring it into a machine, and scooping it into a thin-walled cardboard cup.

I have heard that movie theaters make most of their money from their concession stands, and that the ticket sales largely go to the movie distributors.

So, their business model is marking up popcorn.

Same model applies to concert venues. Most of the ticket money goes to the artist

Haven't I heard artists complain that the ticket sales monopolies like Ticket Master suck up a lot of the money from ticket sales? Was that bad info?

Not to defend Ticketmaster/Live Nation, as they still suck in other ways, but artists/artist management sets the ticket prices and receives the majority of it. Venues don't make nearly as much from ticket sales, including Live Nation themselves which own multiple large venues. Ticketmaster would rather take the blame for high ticket prices than the artist to direct anger in the direction that keeps making money.

The point is not to get goods to you in the most cost efficient way possible. The point is to seperate you from as much of your money as possible.

I think strange in the opposite way, considering the countless people involved in producing the end product somewhere near you. And strange that cinema business model is merely to give people a nice place to eat the snacks.

They automated mirroring posts from Reddit as a way to add content here (don't provide links to original posts either or make it clear that the content is mirrored). They don't really vet what they post either. Something thing they reposted from reddit was a person asking for help picking out PC parts for a gift, a post which the original poster would never see, and people here would just be wasting their time replying to a bot post instead of helping the OP. They've also repost the same article to the same community a couple hours later.

https://lemmy.world/post/51345527/25587759 A lot of the comments in this post point out that they are using AI to make posts and respond to comments.

I'm 100 percent a person. People complaining are likely reddit agents trying to reduce content on lemmy

Nah, they are anti-ai purists. And I'm not sure they're wrong. Using online AI just feels icky, it cannot be separated from the moral implications.

I like your posts, btw, they're good content.

    1. They have an AI generated avatar and profile banner.

    2. They admit to using AI automation to post things from Reddit with basically no human input between.

    3. They have recently been posting AI generated drama posts whining that nobody likes their AI bullshit. (they admit to generating their spiels with AI in those posts, too)

They might be a person, but since they use AI to generate even their comments, they might as well be a bot.

Remember working at Walmart and Co workers felt like it was their store. When I was at the return desk, I would take everyone returns back as long as it was under 50 and I can scant it. Oh, no receipt, okay then here's a gift card. It was less stress for me and the supervisors appreciated me not calling them every 5 minutes.

A local theater donates a large trash bag of popcorn to an elementary school near me. Probably $800 worth of popcorn if it were sold. The trash bag of popcorn costs them...maybe $15?

In the case of McDonald, I don't think that will affect the corporation at all. You're just hurting the store owner who is the franchisee
