Anyone saying the "America deserved 9/11" was a joke is also stupid. It wasn't a joke.

It was a "edgy" streamer way of talking about the very real and consequential blowback that is caused by America's Imperialism.

Unpopular opinion: It wasn’t as bad as Americans are making it out to be.

Why I say that? The loss of life during the pandemic exceeded a 9/11 worth of excess deaths every day and America was doing fuck all about it and arguing about masks. I think more people are broken up about it because it was a highly visible target and showed that America could be vulnerable.

What I will say is that I’m more pissed that it completely eroded our privacy and made casual racism more visible.

Tbf, i was shocked back then when it happened. But nowadays, when i look how much chaos, destruction and pain the US has sown all over the world, i have to say that by now they fully deserved it and their karma balance sheet still is deep in the red.

I feel like people around my age and younger, people who were either too young to remember it or weren't even born yet, tend to make what could be seen as disrespectful jokes about 9/11 since we literally have no connection.

Hell, the only connection I have was being alive in a completely different part of the country. No family back east that far north and nobody we knew either in NY at the time. So I find it so much easier to make jokes about it. Also doesn't matter how much I was told about it growing up, I just thought of it as another day off from school; another 3 day weekend for kid me.

It does suck that a lot of innocent people died, but what can you do besides move on? Especially if you never had any stakes in what occurred.
