“I said to them, was there any sign of love?” Trump said, recounting his conversation with released hostages.

“Did the, Hamas, show any signs of like, help? Or liking you? Did they wink? Did they give you a piece of bread extra? Did they give you a meal on the side? … Like, you know, what happened in Germany?” Trump said, absurdly comparing the hostages’ situation to the Holocaust, which murdered six million Jews.

“People would try and help people that were in unbelievable distress,” the president went on, suggesting that the Nazis were known for their generosity.

You can't make this level of stupidity up.

This line was speculation, he didn't say anything about the Holocaust explicitly

suggesting that the Nazis were known for their generosity.

This as well

"what happened in Germany"

what happened in Germany?

Hey buddy what happened in Germany?

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hwat?

How could you possibly interpret it in any other way?

[–] aidan@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I interpreted as referring to treatment of prisoners of war.

Edit: I also didn't interpret it as him saying they were know for their generosity- just that people in general anywhere tend to have some amount of empathy.

How are we still playing devils advocate for a proven nazi? What will he have to do for you to believe he is a nazi?

[–] el_muerte@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's a pretty fucking stupid take. What other period or event in Germany do you think he might been referring to, where some prisoners may been given "extra help" and extra food? C'mon, let's hear it, I'm genuinely curious about your rationale here.

Devil's advocate, he could have been talking about people like Oscar Schindler. I don't believe he was, and if so he phrased it in the stupidest way possible. I bet that's how they spin it if he gets a lot of heat over this though.

I have a theory about his really inappropriate use of words like "love" and "beautiful."

He's a severely broken Socio/Psycopath, and has no concept of normal human emotions, how they feel, and when or how they should be addressed.

Most people like that at least understand that they have to learn to fake it so they can get by in life, but he's a rich, entitled, incredibly spoiled nepo-baby, who never had to learn to fit in, so he never really learned how to fake it.

But he has learned that others expect it of him, so he gives it a half-assed try, because he can't be bothered to do anything well, unless it brings him profit. So he sprinkles these words into his conversation, not really understanding if they are in an appropriate context, so they usually arent, of course. And he doesn't really care that much anyway.

That's how we get statements about he and Kim Jong Whatever "falling in love," and trading "beautiful love letters." Or say that the Nazis showed "love" to the Jews because he probably had some Nazi sympathizer (likely Kapo Stephen "PeeWee Himmler" Miller, or Steve "Unwiped Asshole" Bannon) tell him story about a German giving a piece of bread to a Jewish prisoner.

In reality, he doesnt know what love actually is, or how it feels, and he doesn't understand what makes anything truly beautiful, because that would require a sense of awe at something wonderful. Same with humor, music, friendship, etc. Concepts like those are not possible for him.

So he randomly tosses these incomprehensible (to him) buzzwords around, hoping that it will demonstrate that he's not the breath-takingly broken socio/psychopath that he truly is.

Adds some relevant context to President Musk's "my heart goes out to you," doesn't it?

Zionism <---> Nazism

It's not just history. It's current reality. There's lots of info on this.

Meanwhile actual testimonies of released Hamas captives:

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Nazis did not.

[–] Yurgenst@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is that what we're calling it these days? Well, much "love" to Trump and his allies then.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago

"I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love"- King George in Hamilton. For some reason, that line always reminded me of Trump

So why isn't he loving his prisoners?

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This has to be satire, right?
