I thought API access was already dead? Thats the reason a lot of us are here... (But not the reason we stayed ;) )

Ending RSS support really sucks. But I guess it's a bit of a blessing to remove that last bit of reddit from my feed.
Didn’t they also have a deal with google and now regret it because people are just reading the AI result in google search instead of visiting the actual reddit link?
You can't even view actual reddit links anymore, at least not on mobile. It lets you view the page for a couple seconds and then tells you to login or switch to the app.
OPENA/chatgpt recently started using reddit less and less, on thier references so there was a drop in traffic, thats why reddit panicked and started forcing the logins, they need new actual users to generate content, and not AI slop. Banning people left and right last year dint help them at all. and now people are afraid to login and lurk instead, they are tyring to force lurkers to login to an account to use.
i was on another forum, and the people that use spamming(for thier own businesses) is starting to have to make "genuine" content to fly under the radar of reddits filters.
Also old.reddit will become an old user thing only and you need to log in every 6 months to keep it going on the account and most likely no new accounts can be created that can access old.reddit. I guess it was always inevitable that they would do this, since they forced login to use old.reddit a month back, even if they said that old.reddit would never go anywhere. The next step will be "there are so few old.reddit users that we have decided to axe it entirely".
That's how they'll kill it. I have no reason to log into old.reddit anymore because they're removing my access point to the site (RSS).
It’s so disingenuous how these phased things can be planned out by professionals. I hate it.
“At this time.”
fuck off.
they have been trying to force everyone to the crappy app since '23, likely its the next step as they try to limit it on the desktop.
Aaron Swartz helped create RSS too.
