Unmatched someone: I was talking about how the movie Avatar is a blatant allegory for native/indigenous populations and the person got offended that I would "put real life events into a movie about blue people"

Been unmatched: the person had a series of 4 almost identical selfies but each one had different anime boys edited in as if they were hanging out (amazing bit. Perfect joke) and my opening line was "i hate when people have only group photos. It makes it so difficult to tell when one I matched with". I was called an idiot and unmatched within 5 minutes.

I had someone, who I had gone on two dates with (maybe it was one, idk. It was a long time ago), apologize that she couldn't date me anymore because she just adopted a cat that had the same name as me. That was a weird one because she seemed very interested until that. Probably dodged a bullet. Lol.

  • I'm so glad I got married before the dating apps became the norm.

  • You dodged two bullets there. 1 was a person who doesn't understand metaphors or allegories, 2 was a person with no sense of sarcasm or humor.

Because I was in the Navy at the time. Not wanting to date someone in the military isn't a bad thing, I get that. But I talked about it in my profile and had several pictures of me on the ship in uniform. Then weird part was that when we met for our first date and it came up in conversation she acted like I had kept it secret. Really fucking weird.

I have no social media and that's a red flag apparently

Shit, this girl worked at a police station and got upset, nearly canceled our meetup because I had no criminal record.

When we met up, she refused to go get food or drinks. Instead, she took me to a secluded park and let me know she was carrying two guns.

I said a shootout was a weird first date activity and I would have rather gone bowling. She took me back to the hotel, but offered to get me Taco Bell on the way back.

She then wouldn't respond the next day, which the entire point of the trip was to go to a museum I wanted to see.

It was my birthday trip and she just happened to be along the route. I went to the museum alone and had a blast.

"She took me back to the hotel" could mean two wildly different outcomes. I can't tell if you mean she ended the date immediately or you two had sex in a hotel and then she ghosted you.

Though either way, her deciding on her own that she didn't want anything to do with you was a bullet dodge, considering she not only used police resources to try to look you up but even scolded you about it, making it clear she either didn't think there was any problem with it or didn't think she'd face any consequences.

She tried to buy me Taco Bell and she tried to kiss me. She took me back my hotel room. I wanted nothing to do with that crazy shit.

I figured the museum would be saner the next day as her daughter was to join us. She didn't answer, I shrugged and went.

She texted me the day after. I just blocked her. So it goes.

She told me that her favorite comedian was Jeff Dunham and that she didn’t like reading.

I unmatched a woman IRL face-to-face because she told me (in one unbroken monologue) that she slept with a co-worker in Sydney while she was visiting a regional office and that she attends SLAA meetings and that was her first slip in 3 months and that she's also a psychic medium and she's building a website to list her mediumship services, and she is obsessed with marvel movies. Then she asked me to go get a coffee with her

No one part of this is too much of a red flag, but all of it together, and she knows I'm good with tech and can build a website with my eyes closed, I probably would have ended up doing a bunch of web work for free. Plus I really don't think that medium people are talking with the dead, at best it's a hallucination or a lie, at worst it's a trickster entity that should not be interacted with under any circumstance.

So I just peaced out and I feel like I made a good choice.

A girl canceled a date once because I'm not on Facebook or anything else. (I asked her out in person).

She combed through socials as a kind of background check and interpreted my absence as suspicious. Modern problems.

What's interesting is that both perspectives are valid. Of course she could have asked why you don't have social media, and when you spout off about privacy and big tech then she would cancel for a different reason.

This post is making me so beyond grateful that I never had to do online dating, and never ever will, I’d rather die a lonely old spinster than do online dating.

In her introduction she made it a point to mention that she’s an INTP and wanted to know what type I was. I simply said that those types of personality tests aren’t really my thing. I got a reply back, something to the effect of “Well thanks for showing up front what a toxic and hateful human being you are!”

So yeah guys, sorry about being so toxic and hateful for not being into personality tests.

    lol that's so stupid.

And the Myers-Briggs isn't even a good one. Those two ladies just made it the fuck up during World War 2, based on some Carl Jung book. It has no predictive power.

While I agree those ladies were a bunch of loonies, I don't think the test is supposed to be predictive (this is how you will be), rather descriptive (this is how you are).

Although I've had this same argument with people over the function of dictionaries being descriptive (this is how words are used) rather than prescriptive (this is how you should use words).

I don't think this is comparable to descriptivism and prescriptivism in linguistics.

The predictive power of a classification doesn't have anything to do chronological order of what you are now and how you will develop, but about if knowing one thing (the MBTI) allows to deduce another (age, socioeconomic status, interests, vocational suitability, whatever). In other words predictive power is about correlations and testable outcomes.

If a psychological test leads to a result that does not predict other statistical values about a person, it does not actually capture anything that person is, at least nothing that's verifiable or falsifiable.

And if it's not verifiable or falsifiable we might as well use zodiac signs.

got a match and first question was if I was an EU citizen, I am, but decided to reply "no" just for fun. Then she asked me if I was here legally and on the path of citizenship, I replied yes just to see where this was going.

"alright, contact me again when you're an EU citizen"

i have a couple of women on dating apps who repeatedly match me then accusing me of being someone else and threaten to report me. I block them.

also lots of them IRL and on dating apps refuse to interact with me further once they find out where I grew up or that my parents aren't educated. because that means i'm not from a 'good family'. I also find this totally insane... but I guess it's fairly normal for people to judge you based on your parents/hometown?

I will say the weirdest fight I ever got in in a relationship/dating was a Russian woman who lost it on me because I eat breakfast cereal. She went on this rant about how cereal/granola is for children and grown men can only eat toast, fruit, or eggs/sausage breakfast. She was so weird, but a every Russian woman I have dated has really backwards ideas about gender roles and they also disapproved of my lack of heavy drinking.
