But what if I have to RMA my graphics card 6 years after I bought it?!

  • Warranty? No what if I have to go somewhere with just the 6 year old GPU, I want to keep the formfitting box so it doesn't get damaged. Have I ever gone somewhere with just the GPU? Once. But you never know if you need to do it again!

You don't understand. On no less then two occasions in my life, I needed a nice sized cardboard box and had to make due with taping together scraps, like an animal

Now I have three nice intact big cardboard boxes. You want me to throw away such riches?

    Madness.

I recently started selling some of my old stuff online and regret all the boxes I've thrown away.
    Keep them.

    False.

I move fairly frequently so they're useful for that, and cardboard boxes + basic engineering knowledge = modular shelving.

I currently have a ~2ft x ~1ft x ~1ft box, filled with many old personal pizza boxes, for structural reinforcement.

Now I don't need to crane my neck to look at my TV.

    Recycling.

  • If you're neurodivergent and also sell on eBay, you can justify a BoxLibrary and enter all of those nice FREE boxes into a self-hosted open source inventory management program that also lets you easily print qr code labels that you can tape to each flattened box (sorted by size, obviously) that you can easily scan to take that box out of inventory when you use it to ship stuff.

And then you can buy new boxes anyway because BoxLibrary is too far away (in the garage) because your partner didn't want all of those lovely boxes in the house, but you can't stop adding to it now, because it's infrastructure and also, hey, that's a nice box - I'm gonna keep that, because I might need it later.

I just got a new mouse and it came in one of those really sturdy boxes like a phone would come in. I literally put it next to the other boxes I've been hanging on to, just sitting on my dresser...

    YOU CAN'T MAKE ME

Lucky for me I’ve never been diagnosed as neurodivergent. So I can keep all my boxes

I feel accused of using a cardboard box "temporarily" as my bedside table for 4 years D:

No! I'm going to need it one of these days. For instance, I'm selling stuff on eBay. I'll get around to selling that stuff. Eventually. And I'll need that cardboard box!

My neurodivergent ass just had to recover and tape-fix a box from the trash, i trew it away yesterday after asking if we should keep it.

Do not believe this meme, do not throw away that box!!

  • source
  • [–] 7 points 2 days ago

It's too big for the trashcan and it'll take me a while to procrastinate breaking the box down.

If you have children, look in it first. Otherwise you could be sans passport real quick.

Sure, I have no plans to move anytime in the next decade, but my 5 year old 50" TV might need to be packed perfectly with all the Styrofoam just in case.

I struggle with this but I’ve reached the point where the times I need a shipping cardboard box (e.g. from an online order) are very much null.

The boxes in which, say, my TV, monitor, and computer case (and other components like the gpu) came in are tucked away though, for when the time comes to move to a new place.

i throw them away with lot of inner resistance and time passing because there could potentially be a use for them - a i neurodivergent?

I threw away a sturdy cardboard box just days before I needed it. The neurospicy person was right all along.
