All that means is that the bribes will have to be bigger. It's the socialism of the wealthy.

If only these data centers held the information that would have told them they were being the asshole.

That people were dropping their shorts i the first place is a bad sign.

The ubiquity of NSAs signed by government officials shows the entrenched degree of corruption. The companies and officials alike should be charged with crimes.

What a weird sequence of sentences to describe that no one likes data centers

    people aren’t dropping their shorts…

    cracks are forming…

I’m studying his body. I’ve never studied the body of a man before. It’s not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But I looked at his ass and then I looked at his legs. I said, “His ass—shit—it’s like, it’s like a pile of muscle.” Then I looked at his legs, and I said, “Man, his feet are big.” Then I looked at his shoulders, and I tapped him on the shoulder, and it actually hurt my hand. It was like a piece of steel.

One thing I noticed while voting in the mid terms is how being anti data center is fairly bi-partisan even for maga dick bags.

Its NIMBY meets ethics. Pure coincidence.

The, we're going to spend 10 trillion dollars on new data centers and they will use all the water and power messaging for stock pumping while people see costs increasing and rising water and power bills was a pretty direct and understandable message. Remarkably fast turnaround though ,it shows how most concepts are ossified while this was genuinely new and people were willing to change their minds on it.

And yet Republican candidates and sitting legislators are pushing hard for them. They really don't seem to be reading the room well.

We're seeing the same thing in Canada, too. The typical alignment between corporations and the right wing seems to not be serving them well this time around...

Turns out a business plan consisting of »build a trillion dollars of server farms now, figure out who pays later« gets slightly less charming once the lenders ask for actual numbers. The AI industry wanted to disrupt every profession except the ancient art of checking whether the math works.

If you have an outlook or gmail, start migrating off those email services now, before microslop and google evaporate.

It's gonna happen fast when it happens.

Google and Microsoft are profitable without ai. So I'd assume the bubble popping will not crash them

Ok, but you should still be migrating off of them.

Sadly need to keep one of those as a back up. I use proton as my main, but I've gotten a ton of feedback during my current job hunt that my email is going to spam, so I've had to send emails using my outlook backup.

    I hate this world

I know I should be. It's a time issue. My gmail address is linked with my entire fuckin life. I guess that's how they trap you..

I had a similar issue when I migrated. The thing that worked for me was migrating one account to my new email per day. It makes the whole thing super non intimidating.

I do have a tip for you if you’re migrating anyways. Buy your own domain and use it for your email. That way you’ll never be trapped again.

I've never even considered buying my own domain. Would you - or anyone - mind explaining how that works for email? I'm kinda half tech literate. I'm at the level of someone who has Linux on their laptop but has to look up stuff every time they use the console!

But yeah, I've been meaning to migrate for years now. Your idea of one account a day makes it seem doable, thanks.

Basicly you buy the domain that you like. Cloudflare sells them at cost. Porkbun has a huge verierty to choose from. After you buy the domain you will have a control panel where you can configure “where” the domain points to.

After you find an email provider that supports custom domains and sign up they will provide you with where to point the MX (email part of the domain) record. Typically some site they control.

In the control panel you point your domain MX records at the address they provide and you can start receiving email at the email of your choice.

After you confirm you can receive email you should then add stuff to your dns control panel like DKIM and SPF so your email won’t be marked as spam. The email provider will give you specific strings to copy paste.

If the email provider starts misbehaving or you just want to switch it’s just a matter of signing up somewhere else and re pointing the domain MX records while you keep the same email. It’s a little more complicated but I means you truly own your email. That and it will typically cost a little bit of money.

Meh, if it happens to large swathes of Gmail users, and I lose everything in that account, I'd be ok with it. Like who fucking cares, honestly?

Not only would it give me a reason to leave all that bullshit behind forever, since I wasn't the only one, I'd have a legitimate excuse if I actually lose anything irreplaceable.

    Like who fucking cares, honestly?

Anyone who has a little sense of self responsibility?

even if you don't care at all about any of your emails in your inbox, all the places you registered an account won't care at all that you lost your email account. even if they cared, they have no way to verify you actually owned the account you claim to.

What? No. This is ai data centers new build. Nothing about that would melt their current regular servers.

The current regular servers proved capabilities that hyperscalers are selling at a drastic loss, most of which can be done with a build run on your PC.

in order for hyperscale AI to break even, it has to make $6 trillion a year. The ambition was to replace most of the skilled workforce with something cheaper or more productive. (And that also means pushing most of society into ghettos and reservations.)

The other interest was government projects, such as commanding drone armies and processing surveillance data.

Six trillion is an awful lot, and its looking unlikely there's that much business to go around.

Yeah, Google just destroyed 815 acres of forest for a new data centre in Finland without permission. It hasn't gone down well.
