Counter Strike: Source
post
My first game on Steam was Counter Strike, but I had already been playing the retail release for a while. They had some one-time activation to bring over your CD key. When they launched Steam, it was horrible. Remember, this was the time of single core processors (Pentium 4), so any anything that interrupted the cpu would effect your FPS. Plus it was buggy and crashed all the time.
I boycotted Steam and Valve and kept playing pre-steam CS 1.6 till the Orange Box came out. But TF2, Portal, and HL2 plus episode 1 was too good of a deal to pass up, and I had a new AMD Athlon that felt like a beast at the time.
Kinda sad I forgot my original account, would have been neat to have an account as old as Steam. Oh well.
No sort or search function?
Unfortunately not. It is sorted chronologically from the time you purchased. To find out the oldest entry, scoll down, click the "more" button and scroll all the way down. I guess this is not a list most people use or need, so there is no need for Valve to invest building further. To find something specific, you can use the browser search functionality Ctrl+f.
The Talos Principle. That was in 2016, when I created my Steam account. It was also the first game I bought legally. I will now proceed to install it on my Steam Deck.
Great game, I never finished it. Got stuck on some puzzle after completing 50-100+.
I really loved the narrator and minimal storytelling in that game. It had a strange sense of religion, math, technology, and mystery.
Like portal, but with absolute severity and no jokes.
I may try it again myself. I had a fun time.
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People in 2009 50% off for ~18€. Presumely because the game was full price on the Telltale site.
And it was a really good decision.
The first game that shows up on my purchase history is Fallout 3, but the first game I remember actually getting was Altitude, which was a 2d dog fighting game.
Just cause 2. Bought a physical copy and was confused why I needed an internet connection.
First game I activated was a retail copy of Half-Life Platinum Pack, in August 2004. I had made by account few months earlier just for fun right after Steam originally launched.
The first games I bought from Steam specifically was the Orange Box, and AudioSurf in 2007.
The orange box was $61, which inflation adjusted means it cost $99 :)
Gary's Mod + Counter Strike: Source! In 2013 for £3.74
I remember messing around in gmod a lot at the time, and although I was never great competitively in CSS I did really enjoy playing in a gun game server with a few people.
I might have played TF2 before then but I'm not sure if it shows up, being a free game
Cod mw3, which is why i made my account. I think. Maybe it was for that time when l4d2 was free on christmas, whichever came first.
Edit: I checked with the link, mw3 came first. Though it doesn't show up in the list because, being a teenager with not a lot of money, I got it from a keystore. The first one in the list is l4d2, which as mentioned was free, then the first one I actually bought through steam was audiosurf.
Purchased myself or redeemed a code for?
I was gifted the orange box for Christmas and that's when I registered my account. First actual purchase through steam was audiosurf but had redeemed Left 4 Dead and CS:S before that.
Half life compendium because I wanted to play CS 1.6. First game I bought non-pirated with my own money.
It was 2004 and I couldn't find a physical disc for HL2 ... Didn't really trust the store but for just one game.
For Me it shows only until end of 2011 🤷, but had games earlier than that for sure.
First one is counter strike source which I adore to this day 😊
Half Life 2 retail standard. August 18, 2005.
I didn't even know that this list was available. There's a ton of games on there that I've never played because I bought them to play after I upgraded my computer and forgot about them. I have a steam deck now and really should go back and try them out.
I got my Steam account through a HL2 disc too!
I remember being very excited when Steam added a new game that was not made by Valve. It was, at the time, an interesting experiment in digital distribution outside a big publisher. “Rag Doll Kung Fu”, a shitty click-driven fighting game.
Early on, I never imagined they’d get big names like Call of Duty publishing there, but it happened sooner than I expected.
Pretty sure mine was the same. My history doesn’t go back that far though, only to 2020 which was my first purchase through steam online.
Found the date: 16th November 2004!
Skyrim. I was forced to download Steam to play it. I was on dial up and had just explicitly purchased a single player game not dependent on the internet, and yet..
Then it forced me download the game through Steam even though I had the physical disk right there. I couldn't complete the download, it was too large.
Oof, being on dial-up when skyrim released would be rough. I was on dial up until 2010 or so, and pretty much had to go other places to download anything onto a USB and then transport it back home.
I remember having to leave my PC on overnight to download Batman!
Modern gaming. Man sounds really frustrating, even though the game is on disk.
My first Steam purchase was Football Manager 2009, in June 2009. Full price, £19.99. But my first activation was The Orange Box, January 2009.
