General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

They should be more worried about the thousands cheering when he said it. Seems Isntreal is losing the narrative and, once los1t, will be damn near impossible to reclaim.

Nazi German embassy is deeply upset by British Americans wanting to kill mazis

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 16 points 15 hours ago

Is it as disturbing as your continued genocide, you maniacal bastards?

[–] ABetterTomorrow@sh.itjust.works 6 points 15 hours ago

Aw poor baby

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 22 points 1 day ago

Someone should put a big mirror on an easel in front of the embassy. Nothing more, no explanation.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 112 points 1 day ago

I'm deeply disturbed by the genocide the IDF are perpetrating in Gaza.

Is this how the media would have reacted if you got on stage in the ‘40s and shouted death to Hitler?

Feel like civilians in this country are being held to higher standard for speech than a whole ass Country is being held to for its actions.

Always have been

Ya but did you ever consider all the morals and values they taught the younger generations, (post boomers and most individuals who were positioned to benefit from the internet boom) was just another weapon used by capitalism? Things like the Golden Rule, protecting those weaker than ourselves, equality, love, etc were lessons those older than us had no intentions of following. They crushed their opponents and ensured no younger generation would ever be powerful enough to overthrow them.

It's funny that the chud line is to question the loyalty of the festival goers, when they're going to bat for an organisation that murdered three British citizens last year.

Israeli embassy 'deeply disturbed'

Oh gosh, I am so sorry, nevermind.

You know what is deeply disturbing? Murdering and starving civilians, including children.

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 58 points 1 day ago

So far they have shot 14 people waiting for food today. including 3 children. this is just today, and so far.

Aw did the mean words hurt them? Israel's actively ordering bombings of children and shootings of starving mothers. It's like saying "Death to the wehrmact"

While I agree that the chant might be a bit crass, I think it's his right to say it. He's saying the army and what it does is shit, and should suffer. I find it very discouraging that such a statement is called antisemitic. The way you frame it is exactly how I see it, it's death to the abusers, to the killers, the soldiers. It's about the violence committed by the army.

It would be as if The Andrew Sisters at a gig in 1943 shouted "Death to the wehrmacht", and people reacted with "well that's quite anti-german innit?". No it's not, it's anti Wehrmacht, just like his chant has something specifically to do with the IDF, not with Israelis.

israeli embassy can fuck off and stop committing genocide

I am 'deeply disturbed' by nazionism.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

Israeli embassy: "hey don't shame butchering children, it is in our cultural traditions k?"

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 55 points 2 days ago (1 children)

stop doing genocide then you nazi fucks

[–] AnarchoBolshevik@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 day ago

Herzlians will be more offended by this comment—likening their régime to the Third Reich—than they’ll be offended by the indisputable evidence of the IOF exterminating civilians.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 35 points 1 day ago

Thoughts? Death to the IDF. shrug-outta-hecks

[–] Monstrosity@lemm.ee 24 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I don't know anything about any of this, but I know the name Bob Vylan is just goddamn fantastic.

[–] DJDarren@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They're worth checking out, because they're fucking great.

We Live Here is incredible.

[–] nik9000@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago

That was fucking fantastic.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

It’s afraid! im-doing-my-part

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm deeply disturbed from seeing all the war crimes and snuff film-like videos coming from Gaza every day because of the modern day Wehrmacht but Palestine instead of eastern Europe. Fuck the entirety of IDF and those who support this shit.

[–] SexMachineStalin@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

Death to piSSrael, Death to the IDF hamas-red-triangle

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

fuck these dumb ass pigs. they’re killing innocent civillians by the tens of thousands and they want us to feel sympathy for them

i hope every motherfucker in the IDF somehow contracts cancer and suffers for the rest of their miserable lives. fuck these people

[–] MrPoletki@feddit.uk 14 points 1 day ago

Whilst I'll never agree with such chants, see the thing is whilst this embassy official might not give two shits about the amount of wanton death being inflicted by the IDF, others do.

I left America because both major parties form a sinister coalition that is inimical to the interests of the electorate.

Joke's on me, I guess.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You could've done some research before (presumably) moving to the next best example of such a thing in the world

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I did! Turns out I'm a real person in reality, so my options were limited.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I'm sorry, didn't mean to come across so snarky to you, I really just wanted to rag on England (specifically)

I left the UK (not from there originally) because I didn't like it there, but I'd still move there from the USA

I never thought England was a perfect place, but at least there is something resembling a social fabric and it's possible to live car-free.

All religions want to spread their local hate globally. They claim that's a morally superior act. It is not.

[–] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 hours ago

We could be wrong, but we've never heard of say Buddhism or Paganism spreading hate.
