Consequences that matter?

I appreciate the succinct answer. As a Canadian, I'm having an easier time seeing why its wanted

They need a 2/3's Senate majority to convict, which they'll never get.

For the senate to convict an impeached president requires a ⅔ supermajority.

Like hopefully this election will break the trifecta and maybe even return both chambers of congress to the Dems, but a senate supermajority would basically require a miracle.

it does seem they have been more useful as a spoiler protest entity then a genuine engine for change. i still watch them for the possibility for actual left movement, but they seem to just want to make people feel good, but keep the status quo.
